I had an old 28" chain that I got with a saw, previous owner filed the rakers down way too low and the cutters were sharpened all wonky. Yesterday, I evened everything out on the grinder. Still had very aggressive rakers, so I decided to throw it on 038 Mag II and see what a torquey saw would do with it. Needless to say, I was pretty impressed. The saw just ripped right through the green pine I was cutting, self feeding, threw chunks for chips, and threw 'em far. Old Oregon 72. 25 top plate, 60 tilt, 10 down.

It should work similar to Oregon 59L.

You're unlikely to get it in the box with a new saw, but it should still be supported on European versions of 592 XP, for example.

That's what it is. Digging through some old boxes at a dealer and found this 84DL loop that will fit on a GB bar I have for the 880.

Couldn't say no to the price

It will cut for sure. It doesn’t look too much different on the side plate than when I tried filing round at the square angles. The top plate will look similar to the side plate. Noodling it was super fast and didn’t clog a normal width clutch cover. IMG_0364.jpeg

I haven't experimented enough yet, but especially for cutting dead wood and on the larger saws with skip chain, I'm finding having a more square profile to the top part of the cutter, followed by a rounded, slightly undercut [to the upper bulk of the cutter] bottom going into the gullet makes for a stout and lasting chain, even in dead/dirty wood full of acorns/gravel/sand/dirt/rot.

I owe some photos to this thread from a while ago, but I've been occupied with other things and haven't been sharpening much.
