I am reducing my friends count bringing their abused saws to me to fix/clean/sharpen and rather increase my own saw count. ;)

Added 3 (three) today.

"That's a huge bit©h"
I have used harvester chain, similar to that, when teaching new sawyers. The 3/4” pitch cutters are approximately twice as big in every dimension as 3/8” pitch cutters, but easier to see the features.

I bought short lengths of semi-chisel chain, which matched the chain we used.

Extreme gullet clearance with MAXX grinder, and then round file touch up with customized FastFiler.
This is not a recommended work chain tooth profile, it is just for play!

This is where the file should sit according to a FastFiler with OEM sized bottom rollers.

This chain will cut, quite well too even in turkey oak - but it will get dull fairly quick.
Fun chain though! :D

@Wilhelm how did she cut. I take it dulled quick due to the aggressive angle? No problem for a grind. Those bucks were sure quick.

This particular chain did not see any wood yet after getting sharpened.

But I had chains coming out like that due to worn down roller guide bottom rollers.
It takes a strong PH and will pull You right into the log, loads the PH and doesn't ease up.
It gets dull faster, yes - but with a beak that strong it is a matter of 2-3 file strokes at the correct file height to get the edge back.
The rakers are conservative/to specs as to keep the bite under control.

As said, it is a "fun" grind/filing, not intended to be a heavy duty work chain.
I will see whether I can set up a camera and record a couple bucking cuts.
The issue is that I am all out of smaller logs and speedwood, and I know this chain won't like gnarly turkey oak much. ;)
It would eat through softer wood species like a hot knife through butter.

Just having a little fun! :beer-toast1:

Messing around with .404 RS 7/32 file gave it 10 down as I always do with chisel makes for a sweet cutter edge. The set on all cutters is as close as I can get it free hand filing meaning all cutters will be doing the same amount of work. There is no goofy long and short cutters with different set all doing different amounts of work that might work good in softwoods but not something I strive for personally if I want an efficient chain.
The gullet is what the file made I didn't and won't go hogging out below it I personally don't like getting the gullet in hardwoods.
The rest is just for chip flow/room.

Wonderful half moon/C-shape!

No
A longer cutter has more set than a shorter cutter the longer cutter will be doing more work cleaning up the narrower kerf left behind by the shorter cutter with less set. (Set is how far a cutter sticks out left or right the set is reduced as the cutter gets sharpened back)
Cutters all different lengths is not a very efficient chain if an efficient chain is the goal.

"Set" referring to the side plate extension?

Yes it's called setting all saws from hand saws, circular saws, bandsaws, chainsaw chain all have set by design.
Chain manufacturers like Stihl have literature on setting and it's importance. Hopefully Philbert will be along and put this information up.
Will a chain still cut with setting all over the place YES. Will most even notice doing that they are giving up cutting performance NO.
Think of it like raker heights all different from cutter to cutter will it still cut Yes but not what you'd call efficiently.
Hacking up a load of firewood set probably isn't of concern but if getting the most performance out of a chain set is very important.

This is set.
