"Prolly one of the top 10 firewood saws of all time, what a beauty."

I snatched that from a reply to a sale thread for a husqvarna 257 on another site and it made think what are the best firewood saws?

I like my 257 just fine but top 10 all time?
What are your opinions?
I've cut a bunch of wood with a 024.

I have seen 029s husqvarna 55s
cut a bunch as well

We all know those saws are no MM661 or 372 ported.
What are the favorites you all have?

I would have to say tha the xl-12 super xl series was the go to saw for firewood for many years. You can als put the different varieties of the mac 10-10. The modern take on those would probably be the stihl 029/290 and the husqvarna 55/455-460 rancher.

I'm no expert but I think it is the saw you have when you go to the woods, not too heavy and reliable is more important than the fastest saw you got.
But I'm here so I do like the fastest saws too

I think that 026 Pro, 036 and Husky 55 and 61 have to be on the list. Mine are in my sig line, but the 3 most used as the 261, MS201T and then one of the 60cc huskys of the 372. When I have to pull out the 9010 it's gone a bit past firewood. I do have a 346xp again though so the 261 will likely see a bit more time on the bench.

Now before I discovered AS and the the others to include this site) Dad and I used an 039 that he bought new in about '92 for everything, until I picked up a 55 Husky to help out. I don't want to guess how many cords of Hedge, Ash, Oak, Red Elm, Locust and other hard woods that saw slayed. It was tough as hell and I wore out 2 sprockets on it. I still miss it, though I have better options now.

While my 7900 series saws are some of my favorites. For an all around dependable, easy to work on, easy to get parts, and hard to kill the last series of 026-066 are pretty hard to beat.

I'm a fan of all 1128s and 026/261s.

My damn 660 is dependable: even with that heavy sticker.

I've worked on more 028 supers 028 029 xl12s 257 for firewood guys than any other saws. my favorite is the 028 supers of the older saws of the newer ones I've run the stihl 261 and echo 590s has served me well for two years ill stick with them.

Top 10, or favorite top 10? Would be different for everybody.

I've cut more wood with 346xp in the last 15 years than any other saw. Poulan 3400 previous years.

If it was all about which saws have cut the most firewood, then KY hit the bullseye mentioning the XL12's and 10-10's. Many still going today.

But if you think about it, they are similar to many of the other mid sized saws being mentioned here like the 257/262, 036/361, 2156, 555 and such. I'd add the 254XP to that group. Not too heavy, 55cc-60cc range saws that cover what most of us run into for firewood duty. Strong enough for the log pile and light enough to limb with.

This is one of those questions that will get many responses but no answer. Everyone has their own circumstances and opinions and what works for one person may not work for another. There are too many variables to get a consensus, how do you plan to make the determination? Number of units sold, manufacturing span, amount of wood cut, etc.?
