First of several up and running :D

I need to figure out a better tank breather...leaks gas .
I made my own fuel line with a grommet and yellow. Works fine.
All the gas lines on this saw had shrunk over 20yrs of non use and wouldn't seal at all.
I'll order some oe for the other builds as it seems they are available.

Just wanted to mention I used Stihl fuel lines with built in grommet in the past with great results (fit better than oem).
I hate the 2 piece Shindaiwa used.
Stihl 048 works great on the 49mm 695.

So, oe for a 048?
The one that was in there was 1-pc like some early husky and Stihl.
What have you used for a breather?

Luckily, all my Vent tubes were good.
OEM gas lines pretty much suck & all mine were mush.
Might be able to mod a fuel tube to a vent tube.
Not sure.

I’m going to use a generic stihl vent with my own tubes.
May use the Pro-line fuel lines, had good luck with theirs I. The past. No so with Dukes

So, the generic eBay tank vent works perfectly.
I’ve tried several combinations of bar size, 7 or 8t rims, etc and still haven’t found a good one. Comp is still around 170. Not great, but, not bad.
The saw cuts well but really slowly. I think I will eventually just tear it down and do some mild porting (can’t do much with the Shindaiwa cylinders as there is just no meat in them. Grind a tad too much and you can blow through the wall.
LRB has pistons and I ordered a couple of the 49mm to play with. I have nos 45s. Frankly, there is no reason not to upgrade the 5 series 45mm to a 49. The top ends are interchangeable. I still have this odd 51mm jug and a 757 piston that may well make a nice frankinsaw :p. They will bolt up on the 575/577 case just fine.

I'm psyched that I came across this forum and thread right now. I've had a Shindaiwa 695 for many years that I got from my father, and want to make it run. Everything in the fuel tank was mush when I got it. Missing a few other parts, as well. I figure I should replace all the fuel lines and put in a carb rebuild kit. I have been trying to wrap my mind around what all the parts are. Two vent tubes with an elbow? An impulse tube? Fuel inlet and in-tank tube with filter? I haven't opened it up far enough to see where the vent tube and impulse tube go where they head down to the crankcase, but maybe those two tubes are actually OK. I would sure appreciate any advice on what parts to get and where, substitutions. I think I also need the outer guide plate, the tensioner pin, the outer filter and filter cover, and the gas cap. Here's a picture of my bad boy:Shindaiwa 695.jpg

I've been replacing fuel and vent lines with generic fuel line and hardware store grommets. 1000003763.jpg

That's not a 695, is it? Mine is similar, but my vent port is further forward. Also, my vent tube goes through an elbow and then through a hole in the front wall and down into the crankcase, I think. I was wondering whether I can just put a vent fitting on it like yours

That's a 577.
I have several 695s, apart, in boxes
And extra tanks so will check for difference. The 695 has a metal tank where the 577 and 757 share a plastic one.

Are you talking tank vent or impulse?

Here's a 575/695 metal tank. Does this look like yours?
Grommets I get are 3/8 OD, 3/16 ID, 1/2" width and 1/8" groove.
Use 1/4" fuel line as needed

Any tube that fits tight in the hole will work, you can then put a tight fitting wood screw in the top of the hose in the carb box.
The tank will breath around the threads of the screw in the hose.

Holes pictured are just under 3/8"

IIRC, the last one I built I used a Stihl 048 fuel line & it was a excellent fit (I think it was $15 @ Stihl dealer).
Perfect grommet fit.
Yea, you told me about those…can’t remember if I ordered some to try or not, lol
The grommet/fuel line experiment worked on the 577 so I back-burnered the 048 :p
