I've been cutting up a bunch of tops lately and have basically been using 2 saws, the ryobimax and my JD cs56. I'm not saying that either of these two qualify, but for my purpose I don't need a 70cc saw.

Best firewood saw would probably be the 12 lb 60 cc saw of your colour preference. If adding a second saw definitely a stout 9.5 lb 40 cc saw. The ryobimax gets a lot more tanks rum through it than you would imagine. The little bit of time you lose in the cut is made up in the moves between cuts, it's the tortoise and the hare.

I want to echo @darkimpulse , the sharp one is the one that gets used the most!

Poulan Pro 330. It's a rancher slayer. Also have a Partner 400 it pulled .325 .058 18" Chain for 34 years before it finally layed down on me. Then I bought my new MS250. The little saw that does. All 3 saws have been awesome.

A lot of 029's, 026's, and 024's used around these parts over the past 25 years.
I think dolmar and echo are putting a good effort for the next 25.

MS361. I've fed my central boiler for 9 Ohio winters with it and she still runs like a new one. Great power to weight ratio.

I cut the most firewood by far with my Mac 1-10, 10 cord a year for over 10 years until my in-laws started buying Jonsereds 49SPs. Homelite XL-12s have worked up many a tree in their times too.

Well Spike has said about the 254 xp which would be the saw i would probably go with if I could only have 1 to use for all firewood tasks.
In that case I put forward the upgrade to the 254xp in my reckoning …Step forward the 357xp…That should do anything you want to do in the Normal world of firewood.

Mine would have to be the ms 361 and dolmar 7900/7910. Really like the way both feel. I've had a couple surgeries on my hands , so antivibe plays a big part in which saws I take out. uploadfromtaptalk1457895197039.jpg

Think this could be difficult without some idea of what "Firewood " is classed as.
All wood could be classed as firewood from the 2 in diameter trimmings from a hedge right up to rings as big or bigger then a man is tall.
Point being …a 35cc saw is ok in 2 in timber and 120 ish cc saw is the saw for the other.
Think the average that folks need to process would help narrow down what saws could be classed as suitable as a "Firewood Saw".
Personally I see up to 20 inch as the biggest ! on average I would proses as firewood …bigger i think you get into a different class of saw and wood…Less general usage . ???

Well if we are going for today verses ever. I would say a small limbing saw like an MS 192 or echo 361p, a great little work saw like a Dolmar 421, and a Dolmar 6100

To me, as long as the saws are piling up the firewood around the place, are dependable, and they are cheap or free, they are in my top 10. Mind you, I am a recreational cutter and the enjoyment is resurrecting dead magnesium and putting them into the rotation.

I cut about 15 cords this past winter with saws I fixed that fellows gave up on. Poulan 3000, Jonsered 625, Partner P100 and one of my personal faves, a XL-76. Aside from the 3000, nothing modern, sexy or particularly safe. But, they still drop rounds faster than a couple of guys can move them.

$6 and a few hours into this jettisoned unit. http://vid26.photobucket.com/albums/c104/Hoggwood/Homelite XL-76 Ignition Swap_zps9w14dqhx.mp4
