I have NFI if this will work.

Husqvarna S35G semi, Pferd 3 square (hex) file. Corner of the file dropped just under the small corner radius.

it will cut. i have square ground those chais a few times for other people. they all said they cut. i have no ideal how long they stayed sharp or how long they cut well. they were both regular folks that only run saw sometimes. who knows if they cut up to par with what people here expect out of a chain.

Been starting to do some firewood for folks as the potential rainy season approaches. This chain went through 2-3 tanks and just took down a very dead and rotting madrone with acorns, dirt/grit, and fine rocks in the center.

Been cutting 2-3 years old, dirty white and tan oak aside from the madrone take-down. This needed a little straightening of the top plate on a few cutters, and a little working in towards the gullet. I've kept the factory angle (25* and 10* up) for this round-chisel, but reduced the hook length while fattening up the rest of the meat of the cutters. The depths are lower than average to accommodate the decrease in hook and larger bite. Runs like butter in dead wood and lasts one to two tanks unless cutting through rocks in the heart.

Here's the chips from today's cutting on the above sharpening:

Cut like that for two tanks, and a little into the third before it started slowing down. I bore-cut a ~30" stump towards the end of the second tank, and it didn't skip a beat. Had to noodle two rounds in half at the very end, and the peels of chip were twice as long.

I made the decision to convert all my full chisel to square so here's some more.

Husky C85 Vallorbe 3 square file. The section that does the side plate on these files is tiny and slightly convex. Incredibly difficult to use but appears to perform the best overall.

I have also changed to only file inside - out to maximise file life. Steep learning curve but seems to be paying off

Good for clean softwood, hardwood a different story, cutting angles to steep and cutting plates to thin eh , ?

Looks bad in the pic. 50 degree top plate cutting angle. 85 side and 15 over the top. Thins the side plate alot though and it can be an issue.

To show how ridiculously hard this thing is to use, here's a out side view on some RS

I have only been able to find the single bevel Vallorbe's over here. I like using it more but it's harder to fit into some chains

The Pferd 3 square / triangle / hexagonal or what ever they are called are a good compromise. Forms exactly the same shape as their double bevel but is small enough to fit in most chains. It's much more user friendly than the vallorbe version.

Has anyone been able to find any info about what the different files are ment for? I only got a response from Pferd that said the double bevel is easier to use for beginners but they didn't say if there is any benefit for using the others

I believe there all for square filing, just a matter of preference, and application.

Round grind the first pass!?
If You have a grinder.

Those rakers look funky!
I'm personally not a fan of the steep-ramped depths. I actually file most/all of the gauge in a rounding motion and very light strokes. Rarely do I take a hard-stroke flat across the top like many do. Takes a few extra minutes to do my depths, but it's always smooth.
