I robbed the carb of my 61 that has a 670 cylinder for my 670 and thought I'd try out an aftermarket 390 carb I have, looks promising.

I had to grind away part of the throttle and drill a hole for the linkage. I also had to grind a little of the intake support so I could get full throttle. I had to cut the choke shaft and do away with the throttle lock to make room for the plastic throttle arm. Where the choke connects I need to do something with the choke because it's working opposite of the way it should, pulled out is off. In the video the carb is moving around because the intake isn't bolted down.

Awesome idea Ronie!
It turns out that the boot on the 61 is bad so I put it on my 670 and it works good. I'm going to take it back off and put it on the 61 after I put a new boot on it, the 670 needs a throttle lock. I don't think it an improvement but if your in a pinch and have a 390 carb it will work, you could even put it on a 272 if you plumed a vacuum line into the intake block..

An older 272 that we are rebuilding for an Uncles friend. It runs and starts up but muh pa and I are gonna replace bearings, seals and all the basic stuff. It has decent compression, cylinder does not look that bad. Muffler has seen better days though..82BEE2A3-0360-411F-B218-0708EA2C0069.jpegED660798-E810-410C-84AE-8138C977739F.jpeg50DD33B6-49AE-419E-95DE-8A7D0DB8F094.jpeg

I've broke 2 rope's and a recoil on this
266xp
I'll see how long this am 272 recoil lasts.
I need to comp test it
It's a hyway 268 popup in the oem 266 cylinder
No base gasket
I only have 3-4 tanks on it
But it feels
strong for a stock saw.
I built it from spare parts
And the ugliest colored am clutch cover
I've seen.
And the previous owner ruined the topcover.IMG_20210302_172701.jpgIMG_20210302_172721.jpg
I have true blue line I'll try next
I've never broken it.

My junk pile saws always end up being my favorites. There is just something about taking a saw that someone deemed junk, putting minimal money into it, and ending up with a decent running saw that really appeals to me.

I managed to make an AM 272 HD filter fit on my JRed670 with 272 cylinder hybrid.

The filter neck fit fine, but the filter gets a little smashed by the top cover.

IMG_1118.jpg IMG_1120.jpg IMG_1121.jpg

I had to bend the adjustment loop of the throttle linkage to the side instead of vertical to keep it from hanging up on the smooshed air filter.

One step closer to making the ultimate 670!

I just got a 266 project saw. Needs a top end and all the plastics and such. I have access to a 630 top cover set. Will this cover fit the 266 cases? Thanks in advance

I have some grey 66 top covers that would work, plus probably everything else!

Really? I’m curious as to where I can find some. I can’t find any of those old 2 coil style top covers. I’m hoping that jonsered one will fit otherwise I’ll be looking for one

You guys are driving the prices up on these saws lol.
Everyone I have except a 266xp I got off john and a full rebuild ported from zoo city
Is a rescue
I saved most from going to the dumpster.
With the holzforma 61/272
They are more popular now.
Hopefully some am fullwraps come along
The company I talked to decided
Not to produce them
Since most would insist on the
Fullwrap dogleg brake flag
Doesn't matter to me.
