Chipper ain’t supposed to be fast.

10° top pkate, and 0.030 depth gauge setting are interesting.

I was referring to the square with the beak on the side plate. It will slice the log to ribbons but not pull chips 😆

Wonder if it’s available in the USA.

Archer used to list some chipper chain in their catalog, but was not available.

A lot of guys would like it for dirty logs on landings, etc.

Only seen it here in harvester chain.

Since I researched this some time ago, I can say that chipper chains for handheld chainsaws have officially been withdrawn from the market in the US. This includes Oregon.

As has been discussed here they are available in Europe and other parts of the world. For example, you can buy them in countries south of the US.
I am curious as to why this was done. Could it have been for safety reasons, as in the case of the availability of factory square ground chisel chains in Europe? Or was it purely market considerations?

To many good looking cutters in here. You can tell how well it worked by the wear on the underside
I save chains like those for training purposes: much like your post.

It’s one thing to describe something, and it’s another to show that side-by-side with a new chain, or one that has reached the end of it’s useful life, with tie straps and drive links that still look ‘next-to-new’.

I think I have every chain sharpening mistake and all types of chain damage covered with this lot of chains. Plan to use them with the descriptions and drawings in some of the chain manuals to show what happens.

I have never seen this before and think it was a broken rim sprocket that may have caused this or the bar rails completely split. Every rivet has the lower part worn on both sides of the chain

Oregon and STIHL (and others ?) have published chain failure guides that might explain something like that.

There are also guide bar, sprocket, and piston / cylinder failure guides used for warranty determination, which are pretty interesting.
