Kinda thought the same fellas. Loaned this saw out bout 6 months ago. I kissed the dirt a couple times yesterday but I didn’t do that. Looks like unc was trenching with it. It was dull (obviously) It cuts ok with a quick file job but it’s also cutting crooked now. Hope it’s in the chain and my bar isn’t tweeked

Dress the bar rails!

Grind out all the damage on the cutters.
Set them at approximately equal length.

Bar “looks” fine. Oiler was plugged up so had bar off 😂

Just ordered a grinder yesterday so guess I’ll have to give it a go
You’ll be glad to have a grinder. Unfortunately, to sharpen that right you’ll need to get back to clean chrome. You can half ass it, but the edge will be very soft.

and when you do grind it back go slow so you dont over heat it or it will dull really fast. also clean all of the gunk off it too or that will get hot as well

Husqvarna X-Cut, deep gullet big C round grind, clipped heels just for the fun of it.
Conservative raker set to maintain high chain speed.

Cuts really well, flows chips nicely.

Stihl 46RCX. This is the first time I have been able to order Stihl chipper chain directly, it is also the biggest chain box I have seen. Normally the big loops just come in a bag

Interestingly, on the box it says Micro, not Standard.
So Micro is, I guess, at the moment, everything not (full) chisel: “semi chisel”. Which, of course, formally makes sense.

From the pictures that can be found online, it looks like the side plate angle from the factory is about 55 deg. Which is a surprisingly small value for a chipper chain. Is this angle really close to this value or they posted the wrong photo here, for example?

In their sharpening instructions the standard value is probably 75 deg now - just like for Micro.

I'll get some more pics later on and have a look
That ain't gonna bite.
The factory grind in the whole roll is awful. Lots of top plate beaks

Just from local dealer, or from some place special?

Thanks.

Philbert
Through a dealer. Stihl Australia apparently has rolls but I have not been able to get them. They will sell pre-made loops, I believe 104DL is the only one listed.

The dealer said the minimum order is 12 loops but they will break out individual boxes at a higher price. This order was just one box

Chipper ain’t supposed to be fast.

10° top pkate, and 0.030 depth gauge setting are interesting.

Philbert

The problematic one is 46 RSLF - a square ground (skip) (full) chisel .404/.063.
0.030'' depth gauge setting is rather standard for .404 chains. Also for Oregon ones.

And 10° top plate is also the standard for ripping chains, and such is 46 RCX (letter X).

Wonder if it’s available in the USA.

Archer used to list some chipper chain in their catalog, but was not available.

A lot of guys would like it for dirty logs on landings, etc.

Only seen it here in harvester chain.
