Oregon EXL next to Carlton LM. If you look at it from the front the carlton tapers a lot thinner on the top plate. I'm going to grab another loop of it because I think it will work really well square filed.

Carlton on the left of the first pic.

Damn it, I know better than this!
It was too late once I felt it.
This chain WAS so sharp it went through cherry like a hot knife through butter, till it suddenly didn't.

I am angry at myself, no need to ad salt to the wound.
Gonna grind that mess out now.
This is my 84DL Oregon full skip! 😢

I was bucking up a cherry trunk that was 24+" at the butt end, but under 24" on the opposite side.
I didn't pay attention and haven't noticed the trunk sat against raised road gravel - I cut into that gravel with my bars tip on the last bucking cut still far from cutting through the log on the bottom side.
I was pissed at myself!

I got the majority of the damage ground out, took a couple passes with the salmon/pink wheel.
Getting my final cutter profile now, then need to set the rakers accordingly.

At least it wasn’t the good stuff , Stihl , Husqvarna brand ,Lol 👍
Old stock Oregon IS the good stuff.

Husqvarna X-Cut full chisel is impressive though.

I don't like Stihl chains and I have some in every pitch, semi and full chisel.

While I was filing my chains the cutters were too hard, I'd go through round files like through toilet paper.

I now grind my chains, but I can't get Stihl chains to bite as old Oregon/Dolmar.

I have a couple saws that will need a new chain, I might pull some Stihl chains from storage and give them another try.
If nothing else wear them out and confirm my disliking of them.

I like Carlton A2LM , full chisel!
A bit soft, but cuts really well.
I run it on my 36"/115DL B&C setup.

What brand file you using, I use Vallorbe files and work well on Stihl chain , the cutting edge seems to wear the longest out of the major brands, but the old chain of Oregon, Carlton and the X83 wear well to ,

I used to buy exclusively Stihl files, got fed up with their poor endurance.
Started buying Husqvarna Intensive cut, then Bahco, Makita.....

Bought a grinder and I am no longer buying round files!
