Tooth looks good. I might have gone a hair further in the gullet towards the tooth.

I've shied away from having a flat-top depth gauge, and spend a little extra energy to round and point the top more. But the difference won't be significant, more of a smoothness vs. chatter in the cut.

Nice big-C!

That little bit of raker flatness don't matter.
Although, I too round off my chains rakers.
Gives a two fold benefit:
- less shock load to the chain
- easier raker setting on the next sharpening
I set rakers 2-3 times, then reshape them/round them of.

A retired faller neighbor took a round file to a chain I round ground for another neighbor.

Took a couple passes to grind out the damage and restore my grinders angles.

Not my pic just sharing is a new meaning to random cutters lol
It's a harvester chain so it's a big link of chain! good thing they have a perspex windscreen that would be lethal if it hit ya in the head/face!

Interesting I don't bother rounding off rakers just flat there is no detectable difference for me in hard hardwoods.
Only takes a tank or two and the timber will smooth that little leading edge same as if ya did it with a file but actually better very smooth.
But yes I'm talking Aussie hard hardwoods will get a pic of a used chain and wood smoothed raker leading edge.
Actully thinking about it if I did shape rakers the same as you guys ramped up to a little point. The timber would actually wear that little point down changing the raker (depth gauge) height pretty fast.

Looks like he cut everything but wood with that chain !

Ernie
Yeah, he is not a very observant chainsaw operator.

I keep telling him to bring the saw along for a chain touchup whenever he says he'll come by , each time he says the chain still cuts good.
Yet he keeps bringing me his saw (sometimes just the chain) on Saturdays saying that the chain ain't so good no more but he has a lot of cutting to do Monday - and the loop then looks like posted above and I have to grind out the damage in several passes.
He is just lucky his old 038AV is enduring his lack of maintenance.

He is a machinist like me, actually even "higher qualified" than my education is, but in real life he is a hack at best.

He is a good dude though.

I thought I recognized that being Mario's saw. Lol. It's the only Stihl in your family photos.
He's definitely a good dude! Hope to see him again next time I'm in your neighborhood.
