If you have one laying about...

sounds interesting

Not me, just saying if you come across one..

That and the parter 5000 was the hot 3 cube saw before the 346 from what I have heard.

You dont see many saws like that in Aus.
I don't think many of them were brought here or marketed to the point Stihl or Husky's were

Just looking at aftermarket husky 55 cylinders, I am not seeing much advantage in the closed port cylinders.
It just looks like an open port cylinder with a bridge.
If anything it looks worse with that support in the middle of the transfer.

Not sure if the OEM cylinders are better?

I recon I can make the open port jug work really well. I have a few ideas floating around my head

Will see how it goes first and get a performance baseline, then open it back up and spice it up.

If you find the thread teach me about the husky 55 some test the op and cp and really didn't find any advantage.

AV mounts showed up today so I got the saw together to a point where I could pull the cord.

IT LIVES :-)
It also sounds really good.
It blew a bit over 170 psi with new rings never run which is fine by me

Still no clutch which is taking a trip on a slow boat from China.

Was playing with dialing in the carb and the throttle trigger spring snapped.

I am looking forward to running it to get a benchmark then opening it back up to see how much I can get out of it.

The cylinder ports were just these small oval shapes so there is a lot of room for improvement

from memory yes, but I recal having better results with the stock carb.
The issue is that you cant get an 039 spinning like you can a pro saw to take much advantage of the bigger venturi and fuel flow capacity.

Here is a thought.
Buy a $15 Chinese Walbro WT 170 replica carb that would fit a 51 or 55.
They have an inbuilt choke right :)
Fit the WT 170, a 55 choke lever and then the velocity stack/pod filter becomes simple

I'm not a huge fan of the china carbs however, anyone got a Walbro sitting about gathering dust?
Edit: Never mind, just bought one of evilbay, along with a choke lever

And I have a Uni filter on the way

Next project

Stihl 024 I bought as a cheap box of broken bits

Ported it today

Stock with no gasket it measured 99/121/66 and had about .040 squish
I sanded the squish to match it to the piston dome then took enough off the base to set squish at .018

It then measured 102/126/69

Took it to 102/123/78, widened exhaust and intake, opened up the lowers and lengthened the uppers towards the intake.

Port matched the muffler and added a side port with a red97 deflector, which is baking on the new paint in an oven right now.

Still waiting on parts to arrive from various corners of the globe to finish it off

Lots to come out of the intake
IMG_0626.JPG

Exhaust is a tad bigger now

I have been doing a lot of thinking towards a name for my saw building.

Its far from being a business but with a name, and maybe a sticker, it will help build a bit of a following.

I am thinking this:

White Knuckle Work Saws

WKWS

@Mastermind , @jmssaws , @drf256 , what size and material do you use for the stickers?

I am thinking a basic oval design, white with black writing, the words WHITE KNUCKLE top and WORK SAWS bottom with a fist in the middle and the words "Hold on tight" under the fist.

what do folks think?

Very cool name Tony. I like.

I have a guy that's local make some. Just a UV resistant vinyl. They are not resistant to carb cleaners or other chemicals though. A member here named Tony Pope made real nice stickers for several of us, but he has disappeared. :(

Thanks mate, I am liking the name too.
I am thinking I may get WKWS on the fist like a tattoo with a letter per finger

There are plenty of local printers around and I should be able to get something made.
What width and height are your stickers?

With the help of yourself and a few other folks on here, my porting gets better every saw I do.
I have now got to the point where the tools I have are holding me back but many thousands of dollars worth or lathes, tooling, foredom flex drives and expensive 90* tooling are financially out of reach

Grrrrrrrrr
