The 028 Super was my first "real" saw. I didn't even realize that I needed any other saws till I joined Arboristsite.
Same story here. Same Husqvarna saw for over 20 years. Then started googling how to fix it. Ran across arboristsite, then I needed another saw, joined here, needed more saws, joined FHC, needed even more and I don't even burn wood anymore. It's an illness for sure.

I loved that 028. Wound up dropping a pine tree on it. I needed a saw for cutting off fence posts on the job, so I picked up a disposable Poulan from Walmart. Dinky little low pro chain dulled every 4 or 5 cuts, so I decided I needed to fix my 028.

The rest.....as they say, is history.

Sometimes forced motivation, is the best motivation.

My first real saw was/is my Dolmar PS-6400 that I purchased brand new.
Only after joining AS the madness began.

Even today I could technically do everything with just my PS-6400, but I would loose a significant source of joy in my life!

If i were going to build a true 3 saw plan, it would be

Ms201tc (dont own one)
044
Ms661

In reality its currently
Stihl Ms170
Poulan 1800 top handle
John deere cs46
Stihl Ms280
Mac 1-10
Stihl 044
Ms661

And all that for a guy that lives in a second floor apartment....not to mention the fs130 brushcutter or the br600....LOL

How many 3-saw plans is enough? How many is too much?
If you need more than 1 storage units for said 3 saw plans you might have a true CAD issue.
Anyone here raise you hand or speak up.
And I'm not talking about someone that bought out a bunch of saws and parts as a resale investment!

Never enough I think. Lol
But some of my 3 saw plans have turned into 5 and counting (Stihl 440) of the same saw. But a few of the best 3 saw plans are Husqvarna 346xp, 357xp, and 372xp, or Jonsered 2153, 2156/2159, 2171/2172, or Stihl 261. 361, 461, or Stihl 026, 036, 044, or ...

That's how I got started too. I was stationed in Italy and got tired of working on my Alfa Romeo so I turned to a Poulan "Pro" that I had that wasn't running well the last time I used it. In doing some research, I realized that the Poulan was not really a Pro saw, that Stihl made some pretty good Pro saws, and that they were cheap and plentiful in Germany and Sweden. I had two saws when we got to Italy. I shipped over 100 saws home...

271/2159/400 for small wood
461/288/390 most of the time
10/10’s and pro Mac 700 to get the dogs barking
My very first saw was a huge skil 1661 so I always liked running bigger saws.
First new saw was a 271 Stihl because I didn’t have the cash for a big boy

FYI My wife hates you guys
