I got the 066 back together.
Muffler baffle is in the bin where it belongs... I hate those things!
factory opening made double size and new larger open area SS screen installed.
fuel in tank, 3 pulls and it popped.
kicked it up briefly and it sounds amazing!

Will kick it up and tune it tomorrow arvo when I am less likely to upset the neighbors after dark. They do have little kids and I know some mug with a VERY loud saw at 9PM would upset me when my kids were younger.

Had a mate come round today with a boot load of saws to fix
He owns a tree service business.
He turned up with:

MS661: snapped screw in lower spike mount and running like crap. Fixed screw, cleaned it up and found he mixes some over priced oil at "I just pour heaps in:1". Dumped fuel and mixed some up at 40:1 for it. It started off running pig rich then after a bit of revving leaned out and sounded a lot better. He admitted he doesn't have time to mix accurate mix for it so is going to sell it and just run 660's

Chinese MS660: He paid $200 for it and it would not start or run. I found it had a stripped nut that holds down the carb. Fixed and still wouldnt start. I stripped the carb and it was dry so not drawing up fuel. Pulled the tank and checked the impulse line, stripped the carb and ran it through the ultrasonic cleaner for 10 min, put it all back together and off it went. tunes it 13K and runs great!

MS660 council auction saw: Almost new. checked, tuned and is awesome!

066 flat top: all original saw, unlimited coil, he has left it here to be lightly ported , muffler mod and made to go better

MS660: more snapped screws repaired, loose bar mounts repaired and tune

MS460: Stuffed clutch side case half which is almost completely rotted away from palm trees. Going to replace the case half and check the AM 460 top end out.

3120: left here for repair to a loose muffler, running issues and light porting as he "wants to know he is holding it" and I can do that!

Oleo Mac 999: JHC its big and heavy, like Stihl 090 heavy, 110cc or there about. Brand new, never cut timber. It didnt want to run properly no matter what I did with the tune so off came the carb limiters and we got it running nice at 12K. Its a beast of a saw.

Also fixed a couple little stihl top handle saws.

Was a busy afternoon and now I have a 3120 and an 066 flat top to port

You certainly have some great saws there to work on Tony

What's compression?

It blew 170 cold just after assembly. I forgot to check it before I started
It feels like more though?

Will check it again after I get it hot and tune it to see if it's come up

170 will be about right .
030-040 from the chamber will be 190-195

If it was my saw I would take it higher but I think I will leave it where it is.

There's not much difference between a 066 that's 170lb or 195lb that have the same numbers but 030 or 040 allows you to get the exhaust down farther,the extra compression isn't needed it's just a byproduct of getting the exhaust to 100+

That's why a good cylinder is so important,if you can get the exhaust at or above 100 without 200lbs of compression it will be very strong.

The cylinder i gave al and ported for his 064 hybrid is 103 and 195lbs.

A cylinder That's 95 stock if you tried to get it down to 99+ you would run out of piston before you got there and have 230lb of unwanted compression.

The cylinder on Al's saw was the best timed 066 cylinder I've heard of.
I got it given to me and almost *s-word when I timed it. 1 in a million no doubt

This one was 97/118/78 stock with .028 squish running a gasket

Sounds like a nice cylinder, I'll bet it is very strong after your mods (and likely ran pretty well stock).

Everytime I talk about numbers I'm always using a oem gasket.
I don't like sealor

Holy snapping oil threads batman, the 066 tunes fat in mid 14k range
I have dialed it back to 13.8k and it's very happy there, 4 stroking strong.
That's with single port muffler and factory HD air filter

Owner is going to bring over a set of stihl dog spikes and a bar/chain to be fitted and he is not getting back till I have run a tank of fuel through it

Worked great.
Its over 110* F here today so not much saw fixing happening.
