Toying with this idea on the husky 50 Rancher
I can easily mod a WT194 off an 026 which has a 10% larger Venturi
Only fun but will be getting throttle and choke to work

Thoughts?

The velocity stack has a built in choke lever
It would sure work better than the stock setup

It's just a thought at this stage.
I have a WT 394 carb here that I will be able to drill and fill to make it run with the non external impulse line.

The stock WS 82 has a 12.7mm Venturi and a tiny little main jet
The WT 394 removed from a late Stihl 026 has a 13.5mm venturi and a proper main jet

I think I will fit the WT 394 and see how it goes.
I recon this will a good little project saw to tinker with

Measures 106.5/125/70

I'm thinking of taking the top back off and widening out the lowers on the cylinder and the case, lowering the intake to about 73 and widening it some more and maybe taking the uppers up a couple degrees with a bit of length added towards the intake similar to a closed port design

Mmmmm

Squish is just over .050 with the gasket delete.
With no way to take material off the base yet, I think I will just leave it stock but with the WT 394 carb fitted
I will open up the stock set up best I can to get it breathing.

The stock filter was completely blocked as it stood in the picture above, it held water like a plastic bag.
I put it in warm soapy water in the Ultrasonic cleaner and this mist of stuff came off.
It now flows so well I can't get it to overflow when running a tap into it

Ok, carb mod on the bigger WT 394

Remove the external imulse barb

IMG_0544.JPG

Now we want impulse to enter the same place in the carb via the hole on the front which is currently a blind hole

IMG_0545.JPG

And then it has to go up into the top cover where the original impulse signal entered via the blind port on the right

Yeah I snap shots and post them as I go.
I was actually just putting along enjoying the job, sipping a beer or 2 and listening to some music

I also bored out the tubular intake that acts as the choke inside the filter.
It started at about 13mm and flared out to 17mm at the carb end.
Its now about 17mm all the way through so should flow much better.

Its looking good for a piece of rubbish plucked from landfill!

Nice work Tony.

Could have just drilled the carb body, and swapped the tops couldn't ya?

No the tops and internals are very different. Outside is near identical though.
They are also keyed different so they wont fit.
The WT carb has far better fuel delivery design so I went with that.

I'm not expecting it to make ported 026's nervous at first but I am thinking about slowly developing it.
Low cost tinker saw and I recon I will be able to really get it rocking.
I put a spark plug in it and its certainly got some serious compression

My bad thought they was both wt.

Find ya a jred 490 top end to put on that think those are the closed port version. Probably out run a few 026 after you open it up a bit. :)
