The 400 is my favorite Stihl.
Mine too
Why? Expound a bit.
If you’re predominantly a Husky guy think what it would be like if a saw had 372 power but handled like a 550.

If you’re a Stihl guy think what it would be like if a saw could spank a 044/440 and it handled like a 026/260/261.

I hope you are correct!! My 572 may sail away. Never owned a Stihl, figured I should give one a try.

The 572 was popular for us to build for awhile. Now we rarely do one. Same is true for the 592.

The saws we do most often are the 500i, 400, 261, 201, and 2511T.

Anyone dynoed a 400 stock and ported?

It spools up fast like a 372 but has a nice wide power band like an 044/440. Best of both worlds really. It won’t balance a long bar as well as a 572 if that’s what you’re hoping for. Other than that I’d much rather run a 400 than a 572. If the 400 can’t cut it I’d rather skip right to a 80/90cc saw but that’s just my personal philosophy of use.

Going to run a 20" lightweight bar on it. Thanks for your input, I will be waiting for saw and bar to arrive.

My saws mainly see red and white oak, maple or pine are seldom cut. Cutting like a boss or like no bar at all will be nice. I will let you know which one it is, when it arrives. Have at least 8 more dead red oaks to drop, another 3 have been cut split and stacked. Those fell to 550mk2, 572 and ported 372.

Just so you know, 10F is about -12C
👍didn’t know you were referring to such but agree, yep, in the vehicle all night up to minus fifteen c and minus 8-10 at 8.30am it is a tight engine(but should be) oil films don’t want to give understandably, but it’s still starts easier than other saws I have, & I won’t even go there with the 660mag, don’t even look at it!🤣👍

Go a Duralite 24”💪 if it can’t run that it ain’t worth carrying. 12”/30cc is a good guide for a quality saw. In due respect I run 60cc 20” & 24”and if it can’t be sorted with that I jump straight to 90+ Skip tooth full chisel oregon or carlton let it breath and stay sharp👍
