What is the lowest, sleekest Jred top cover (like a 266 cover) that will fit a 272 cyl? 625? …and if so, I’d like to buy one. I have a cover but I think it is taller/bulkier in the back. 630 or 670 maybe. @Spike60

630 or 670 due to the plug angle, a 266 will as well, but those are drying up like rain in the desert.

Gray top 61 is the lowest that will clear a 272 on that chassis, those are getting hard to find as well.

Looks like the smaller CC Jreds have a lower sloped back that almost matches handle height and the 670 has a boxier top with just the corner knocked off. I think the one I have is the lower sloped one - which means I want a black 61 top. I used to have a dark grey top - is there a true black? Thanks

I think the grey was black when new 40 years ago, I think that is how they age….

The first 670's had a box style filter all it's own, and that was the original reason for the taller filter cover. Didn't last long, and they quickly went to the same filter for all 3 saws. (As well as the 830 and 930) But the 670 kept the taller cover for whatever reason.

That early filter is NLA of course, but worse yet is the the stud spacing is different and later filters don't fit.

You guys remember that the filter covers fit either twin or single coil cylinder covers, but the cylinder covers themselves don't interchange between them, right? Those dark gray 61 tops only work on the twin coil saws of either brand. Only bringing that up cause it looks like that IPL is for a single coil saw.

Thanks Spike, I forgot to mention that.

Of course with just a bit of case welding, drilling and tapping, every cover fits every chassis….
