Good to see you @taplinhill
Good to see you @taplinhill
It's a 1988 saw so it's actually a later model 266. And the top cover, starter, and brake/clutch cover are all correct for the year. The metal tank was standard on heated handle saws of that frame well into the 1990s.I believe this saw is allowed in this thread. Picked it up pretty cheap. It's a 266 G, but with the XPG starter decal and XP top cover. It also has a metal tank, which might make this al early model? I got a bit confused when reading 266 threads. Carb is a Tillotson S224.
It is very dirty, and the clutch cover is damaged and the brake lever is bent. The piston and cylinder are like new surprisingly.
Sadly the wiring from the ignition system is totally gone. Will have to dive into that later.

@GerbrandR yes. Can solder on new, heat shrink, etc.
The jonsereds boys always claim their versions are more powerful
I never could tell a difference
I just have a lifetime supply of 2 series.

I let this guy in the steel toed Crocs run a 266 of mine he wanted to buy itView attachment 346186
He kept getting pinched and finished off my rubber mounts
I'm going to try johnmms 288 spring mount cut down trick on it.
The rubber avs really don't bother me I'm immune to them after 30 years of running them.
I got this guy a 257 it suits him better
It was entertaining watching him step in several fresh cowpies in his Crocs.
That is what my 266 wears. My 266 has a spur sprocket, they seem to be hard to find. Am I right that I can use the (I think) newer style clutch drum with the removable sprocket?

Good to know, guess it's basically the same as what's on it now when it's assembled.
Are you sure it is the bore that is wore out? Many times it is the shaft itself that is worn out as they are just soft plated brass. They will wallow around inside the shaft bore making it seem like the bore is wore out when it is not. Possibly you may just need to replace the shaft.I found an issue on my new 272 build after testing it this weekend. The tillotson hs224 throttle shaft bore is wallered out bad. I somehow missed it when rebuilding the carb and get this…. replacing the throttle plate as well. Whatever.
I found a great deal on a NIB Tillotson HS260a. Can I swap over my external idle screw style throttle shaft from the 224a over to this 260a so I don’t have to cut the top cover?
