Yes I will be getting with you to work your magic on one of them 357s at some point. I think it will make an ideal saw for most of my needs. And looking forward to the 6100 I know you will have it :coleman: when your done with it

I have all 3 ported. If you want more torque for a little weight gain , 357 is it. It runs 3/8 20" and have run a 24 pretty well. Not as much with the other two.

Bingo. I can take a ported 357 or 562 and use a bar long enough to be comfortable and use if for big stuff or limbs. 346 is fun to make 3 cuts in a square chunk of wood

550xp for me, hands down. 346xp for fun.

I've had about every 3 cube out there, and there is lots of good ones... Just nothing that has felt better to me than the 550 (for farwood and such).
For their time, the P5000 series can't be beat. I think they are still relevant even by today's standards.

Having just finished porting my 357 I can see that being the case for me as well. It is a capable saw in stock form but now that it's ported, it's got an entirely different attitude...very, very strong saw to say the least.

The new 2016 Stihl ms261 has more power and much more torque than the 550xp and it is even lighter according the KWF test.

For me, this thread is a great reminder that everyone's needs & uses are different!

I have no use for a 50cc saw. I tried one once, I owned a MS260C. It could do marginally more than a 35cc saw, but not much in my work circumstances. But, I don't cut firewood. I'm guessing that others feel much the same about a 35cc saw, to them, its probably OK, but they can do everything they need to with their 50cc saw?

At work my needs are >95% 35cc saw. The remaining <5% of my time I use a 78cc saw, a 23cc saw, or a 92cc saw (I could get by without the 23cc & 92cc saws too really!)

I even tried a 357xp once - good saw, but no need for it doing what I do.

I'd love a new MS261. Have you ran both saws to form this opinion or just reading paper?
No, I have not! I have a 550xp but I need one more 50cc saw so I am thinking of buying the new ms261 after reading reviews and the KWF test report.
