90cc class saws which one is the current king of the class?

Greg I’ve heard a few stories like that. I don’t want to have my opinion of the 5 series Huskies get misconstrued though. They are great saws when they’re running right.

That’s my take as well. Many people have never had a single issue. Being on the forums, we hear a lot about the issues more often than those that aren’t. I have seen failures (or at least some sort of running issue) on both sides. Doesn’t really matter the brand, when self adjusting carburetors work properly, they are bad ass

Where would a flat top 066/064 fall in the pecking order?
Both 660’s I ran I thought were kind of dogs but they were pretty high hour.
I’m mostly pleased with my 661, good oiler, good power, sh*t air filtration though, feels a bit too floppy for my liking but I’m used to rubber mount saws.

Yep spot on. And they seem to work great the majority of the time. I mean I’m a guy who runs saws more than the majority of folks outside of maybe pro loggers, and I’ve only had trouble with one MT saw and that was a known 201t solenoid issue. Pretty simple fix once I figured out what was wrong. That’s in roughly 7ish years of using at/mt saws. I think that’s a pretty good track record.

I think they are pretty sporty. The 395 stroker might have slightly edged out the flat top 066 but the 066 has a much more useable power band.

P.s. that’s a work tune for the 066… there’s a little more juice for the squeeze in there if you know what I mean.

661s turn up really well too! Pretty hard to go wrong with one from any of the known porters. I like my MMWS 661 a bunch. In addition to Randy, Kevin (@huskihl ), Scott Kunz(Treemonkey), Steve (@Stump Shot ), Mike (@Canadian farm boy ) could all fix you up with a badàss 661. Seeing as you’re Norf of da border I’d hit up Mike. Helluva saw builder and even more helluva good dood!

Mikes ported 3 saws for me, absolutely solid dude and I don’t have to learn/ deal with shipping, which is a plus for a simpleton like me.
Not against doing buissness with folks south of the border just shipping cost/ conversion rates makes it prohibitive in my case sadly.

Don’t understand how if you’re an authorized Husky dealer , but don’t have the equipment to fix a AT saw makes no sense whatsoever.

My local dealer sells and services both brands but doesn’t have what they need for AT saws. I don’t get it either.

For me the 395 is a different class due to weight. It’s a long bar saw. More than I want to wield for any length of time.

32, maybe 36” bar felling, 661

I like my 2188 and my 288s.

That's the AM 395 big bore cylinder fighting it. The OEM cylinder ones ran out a lot further, the BB had more lower end grunt (~10.4hp at 8k!).

My buddy bought a stihl 660 around 2008. It never was as strong as my flat top 66. If ever a 90cc saw needs port work it's the 660 in my opinion.

The early 550’s and 562’s remind me of 6.0 powerstroke. You hear a lot of negative *s-word about them cause that’s what people talk about. But there’s 6.0’s out there with 300k that have had nothing but regular maintenance. Just like my early 550’s and 562’s never really gave me any problems.

Yeah the bb cylinder is definitely not the way to go. That saw, as far as I know, is still not currently running. I traded it and some cash to Randy for a ported 661 and was happy to make the deal.

But like 6.0 powerstrokes more than half of the owners had issues just like early 560/562’s because if they didn’t they wouldn’t have redesigned the whole saw. Looks like the mark 2 saws did better than the 6.4 powerstroke did

I have it back. I did some updates to it while I had it apart and it put up some impressive numbers on Joes dyno before eating another big end rod bearing.
