I need to run a 346 everyone seems to like them must be a reason for that;)

yes you do....346 FTW. I have a 260 from TL that runs right on the 346s tail and is dead nuts reliable; I use it the most. The 346 handles better and has better air filtration (by a mile). I have a DD 346 that I bought new and sent to DD, so it doesn't get as much use, only on occasion and GTGs. I have another 346 from TM that has a few gremlins I am trying to get ironed out or it would be my primary 50cc saw; when it is "on" though it "is on like Donkey Kong".

Unfortunately, I have not used the Dolmars, the Echos, the Shinny's, the Poulan, the 550, or the 261c. Sure would like to though :)

Miller Mod Saws I was looking at the specs on the 5105 I think it or the new 261 stihl would be the torquiest once ported but the dolmars weight was listed at 11.9 is it that heavy? Or weigh that much more than the husky and new stihl? I ask because I don't trust the specs from the manufacturers if the husky and stihl are being really optimistic and the dolmar is being truthful they could end up much closer in weight than the specs suggest.....

I havnt got to play with the new stihl yet but the 5105 is really comparable to the original 261cm. Only cheaper. I picked that saw because it smooth and very strong when built. I picked the 500p because it's light and nimble and while I havnt made them as strong as a 5105 the have an excellent power to weight ratio when ported.

A few of us may have strayed a tad ... I'm thinking Rocco was referring to unmodded saws

5105 if you want new

I have a bunch of 520/540/109/115 dolmar's I run b/c they are well balanced, cheap, and always start when I need it to.

026/260's are pretty nice for stock light weight 50cc

Ported saw info is great and very much appreciated I don't keep a saw stock if I can help it. I am glad to find out info about stock and ported forms of all these saws thanks for all the replies. I like my 550xp it ran good stock and is great after mastermind ported it. But I don't have any experience with any of the other 50cc saws. To me the sub 60cc size saws are great for limbing and small cutting jobs with the main benefit being there light weight and good rpms. For most cutting I want the power and torque the 60cc class and larger saws produce and thus I mostly grab my masterminded 562xp this also depends on the kind of wood your cutting and its size.

Boys I don't know, the 550xp or 346xp. My 346 is ported 550 is only has the muffler opened up. But they really are different behaving saws, depends on what bar and what your doing. One can't choose one over the other ill take both

Very hard question to definitively answer. The good news is that many OEM's are fighting for a good saw in this class. I have a stock 550xp & a stock MS261 & a ported MS261. I use the ported 261 the most but it chews a lot of fuel compared to the stock one & my 550 is small light and throttle response is FAST. I like the factory double dawg/roller catcher option from the Stihl & the air filter. Both saws have their strength's & weakness's. I'd buy either saw again too.

Baby saws .

The combination of your avatar, that post, and what I would call impeccable timing.....

I am unable to wipe this ridiculous smile off of my face.

What's it for?

If limbing small stuff then a husky should manage it

If you're cutting real wood though, you'll need a decent saw...

I'll just move along now
