066 Rebuild, Port Job etc

Ahhhhhhhhhhh things changed again

I just bought a mint metal badge 066 red light that still has a working red light.

I will put it back together with new bearings, seals, gasket, fit up the AM P&C after a clean up and move it on.

I now have 2 way better saws on the way and this old girl will get fixed up as a learning experience for me and sold.

Bugger it, Sell the well used 066 and 039 that I never use any more ,and keep the low mile 066 and the red light 066 to use and play with.

Life is too short for rubbish saws

You gonna mill with a low hour 066 or a red light ? You need a redheaded stepchild to beat on the mill....

the red light was still being built as of June 10th, 1992 but was changed in the 51.94 tech bulletin to a new unlimited coil setup with out the red light
so the red lights run from 1988 sometime to may of 1994 or thereabouts

I have taken a bit of a risk on it, hoping it is original, it certainly looks good.

Fingers crossed.

I am a bit concerned about the rear air filter cover. It doesn't look like it matches up

Pretty sure the canister/hd filter setup isn't original, but that isn't a problem for performance or value on that saw the upgrade hd setup is waaaay better

The plastic on mine is dated 1993 but I don't know how accurate that is.

Go easy buying these classics,me and Definate Dave need more of them.

If it original, just how rare are a good working example like this?
Is it worth cleaning it up and putting it away as a bit of a keepsake/investment?

I would call yours a nice clean example it would easily bring $600 inside a day on Craigslist around me assuming it runs well.
It would likely bring closer to $765 on eBay but you pay 12% to eBay and PayPal plus shipping and you have to warranty it on eBay too.
If you are patient And firm you can get closer to the eBay number locally.
Now if it were near mint looking like it was a one owner barely used original bar and chain with paint remaining you are in the 8-900 range and mint now in box a multiple of that or likely more than a new 661 by a fair bit
