Yes I would!!!

I did not know that, but yes, your saws ran very strong, so maybe the KS is not as important as I think it is, but they run good also!

Were they Mahle jugs?

Oh yeah it will get a good air filter, DP muffler and thinner gasket

I will probably strip it right back and give it new bearings, seals, case gasket etc too.
I like to completely overhaul a saw with unknown history before it goes into service.

I can't check it physically because it is in another state and will be posted to me.

The saw is for my brother. I have been looking for a good deal for him for a while and when this popped up last night it ticked all the boxes

(2) were STIHL and one was MAHLE.
Christine wears a STIHL jug.
Dexter has her up for sale if you're interested.

Learn something new everyday. I thought all the angle fin 10s were either KS or Mahle.

Thanks for sharing.

Look, dont stress too much. If it doesnt happen, another one will come along.
I thought that one was a little pricey, considering its condition,I bought my first on for $450,and my second for $200.
they dont show up very often because the folks that own them are still hanging on to them, but i predict a lot more coming onto the market in a few years.

All good, he messaged me saying he would ring in the morning to arrange finance and postal address.

There are 2 or 3 others advertised for the same money but they either have been rebuilt with AM top end which I am not interested in, or are really rough.

I have seen a few others over the last year or so but they were way overpriced which is why I jumped on this one.

My brother is stoaked and I am looking forward to rebuilding it and getting it back to tip top condition!

I can't enlarge the pics, but it looks like a 12mm saw.

The boss above the oil fill area is square, not curved.

People will fight over the advantages of the 10 vs. 12mm. Some say the earlier 10mm jugs had better factory timing, esp the KS.

12mm has a stronger crank and can be changed to a 046 hybrid if you ever choose to.

Cool, thanks mate.
I will find out for sure when it gets stripped.

If it still has the original jug on it and is in good condition, it will likely stay as it is. Maybe a light port job to help it breath.
If it shows up with some nasty Chinese thing on it, I can see it becoming an 044/046 fairly quickly

Hope it's a 12. I think it is, fairly sure.

You can get 12mm Meteors for the 044. The 10mm meteors (I'm running one) are another issue for debate.

The OEM 10mm pistons has inside pin bosses that are tighter for the smaller narrower rod. The meteor has the smaller pin bore, but the bosses are still at 12mm width.

Some swear by going OEM only on the 10mm because of this, but many (including me) have had no issues with the 10mm meteor.

You're great at grinding, so be happy it's a 12.

Great info as always mate

How good is this forum hey?????
I hope it stays like this forever!

Now...... I guess now would be a good time to discuss porting.

Do the 044's like wider ports or better kept closer to stock?
Smooth the lowers edges out or leave them alone?
Any rough numbers I can start with after I measure this one up?

PM one of the pros here for numbers. That's what I did.

I understand they like higher transfers than most jugs.

I assume you read my 10mm Meteor findings ;)
