Ok -- this 044 is oiling just fine. The sump line and inside the tank looks like new -- oil is clean and perfect. Took clutch cover off and cleaned and everything under there is like new -- clutch drum not burnt (looks new), nothing under cover burnt, rim sprocket looks perfect. Heck this saw is like new. I can't get over how nice it is for what I think is a bit of an oldie not being a 440. Anyone know when they stop making 044's ?
Ran it w/o clutch cover and it dribbles oil out the oiler rather nicely. 1/4 throttle and it will dribble on the ground drip drip drip...
The oiler holes in the bar don't appear obstructed. Bar looks burnt -- and I think I know why...
The chain -- it is the absolute dullest chain I've ever dealt with. Teeth rounded over real bad. There is a 3 on the drive link would that be 050 gauge looks like right from Stihl's site
It's a 20" bar 3/8 pitch -- stihl brand chain I'm assuming RS.
I put it to a piece of oak while bar still on and that chain won't cut at all -- push down and forget it.
I think the culprit is the owner pushing like a madman on the chain trying to get it to cut with this horrid chain.
I'm going to clean the bar groove really well and put a proper edge on the teeth and set the depth gauges at 0.025.
Will test piss rev for oil into a log and if oil is getting into the bar will make a few cuts.
This saw runs, sounds, and feels strong. My compression tester is no good but poor mans it feels nice and thunky pulling it over. It has a nice bark like a 70cc should.
Tachs at about 12500 seems rather rich -- these have unlimited coils I assume? If so, what is a good no load RPM to set it at for work?
If it's not raining when done with the chain I'll try and grab a video of it cutting... assuming all of my suspicions here are right!
