I'd love to see the same comparison against a 455/460 rancher..
Wait, I've done that in person.
600P kills the 460.
To be fair, they should've hung a 20" with 3/8 on that 290
just what i was thinking when i watched it shawn.the 455 to me is just a saw.nothing impressive there along with the 029/290.

Echo makes a nice saw but for everyday work they won't cut it IME. I had a 355T that i liked and it ran great but i had to replace the the lanyard ring and handle twice in less than 6 months and after a year it was trashed. If Echo was serious about the pro market they would trim some weight and make the 355T with a magnesium case and they'd have a winner.

I want to turn my 550p (less than 5 tanks run time) into a respectable saw as its pretty well build with good AV and has quality components all over it. I'm sure its the same chassis as the 590/600/620p has same tanks, handle, starter etc. It looks exactly the same but with a 550p sticker. So what it is essentially is a 55cc saw that is as big/heavy as a 372xp. Do any of you echo gurus know if a 6 series jug will bolt on?? My guess is it would and share the same crank and everything. With a 620p jug & slug I'd have a good respectable saw I'd use and be happy with. Please tell me good news so I can give this saw the life it deserves!! At the moment its like a ms261 in a ms441's body and I wouod love to fix that.

Think the 550 is a "tween" saw, kind of an out cast except for maybe the 450, isnt the 550 a strato engine? I'm sure it has some similarities with the others but highly doubt if anything crosses over easily.

I'd swear the 550p is just a smaller bore 600p.
Pretty sure it's a bolt on upgrade to the bigger slug and jug iirc.
Peel the stickers off and they're identical.

I think your right Shawn, I think its the same chassis and everything but with a little jug. Would love to know for sure before buying a cylinder and piston though. I reckon it could be turned into a 620p with bolt on parts. I think I need to download some ipl's and check part no's see if the case hase the same part no. I'd get the 620p handle too. Its a good saw but just to big to only be 55cc's.

Looking at the 550 ipl, it has strato of some type. 2 separate intake ports. So if the bolt patters are the same you would need jug, boot, and carb off of the 590,600,620

Edit, different stoke 34mm vs 37, has the same bore at 45mm. So it would need a new crank too. And or a 590 piston and lots of work on the jug.

Weird. I have never actually looked at one. From the outside its identical to a 590/600.
I'm wondering why they didn't carry the strato setup into the larger saws?
I always thought it was weird that they made the 550, and then put the 590 in the lineup at a price below it.
I'd be curious to see how it performed along side a 600, stock for stock.

Here in oz the 550 is a little cheaper than the 590, but my 550 came from the US. Its a 'nowhere' saw in the US when the msrp is dearer than the 590 as you would be silly to buy one. The 590 is awesome value which ever way you look at it. Even for a die hard of the major two a 590 at sub 400 would be a welcome addition to any firewood or even tree service guy.

I was thinking of getting a new 800p but very few vids of them in action and seems to not have a good working range for rpm

Maybe Randy will treat us with a vid when he gets my 800p done:). If it turns out anything like the 500p and 600p he did for me, I will be a happy camper for sure.
