I had an engine builder come by my place today, to cheer me up and swap lies about engines lol
I showed him the crosshatch pattern that was still present on the bottom of that old 371 jug. I will state, this guy builds car and truck engines, and some race atv 2 strokes, he knows nothing of chainsaws, and he owns a very nice cnc honing machine and boring machine.
Well i asked him what kind of ring did the factory crosshatch pattern intend to use. He said given the pattern it would be for cast iron or cast iron alloy. I said what about a chrome faced ring, he said no way. Chrome requires different grit and pattern angles for proper and quick break in. That was all we talked about, really. He has like 20 different grits he uses, and also every ring alloy requires different crosshatch to ensure proper sealing. Just my findings and trying to makd sence of low cranking compression. He agreed that one thin ring was risky for proper seal but when i said they have a 1.2mm single ring he said great, much better, sounds likd the perfect harmoney between the 1.5mm and 1mm.
Look at the old huskys thin rings, always 2 thin rings, which also made perfect sence to me and he explained it. All about some gas that floats the ring and stuff i dont understand

Ultimately, I believe the single thin ring is fine, just might take excessive amount of time for ring to seat as compared to a cast iron or moly faced ring

Well this has turned into a flippen mess. As i was getting ready to ship the piston back, bill at dominant saw told me to ship it to Ronie. So i paid shipping to ronie and waited for refund. A week now after ronie recieved piston i still havent recieved a refund from bill. mulitiple emails and called many times no anwser. Never in my life have i dealt with such a company that just up and stops all communication.
At this point i aint got a pot to piss in nor a window to throw it out of, the shipping cost of 12 dollars is money i had to borrow that i cant pay back till i get refunded from bill. Ronie had bought the piston from bill so now bill is sitting on money from ronie and myself. This is just tempering my attitude to live life as secluded in the bush as i can get, with no human contact.

Worth a call to the bank.

@dominantsaw needs to get their head out of their ass and make it right. Really easy to burn bridges and it dont take long especially on a chain saw forum. It would be wise to chime in and make it right.
