Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster in this thread. I’ll cut right to it: my dad just gave me this double bit that was my Grandpa’s. Can anyone give me some information on it? I’m assuming it’s nothing special, but ya never know..

Made for Montgomery Wards by Mann Edge Tool Co.
More than likely Pre WW2.
Considered their top grade.
Other grades were Lakeside (Kelly) & Eclipse (Plumb)
They are great axes.
Use that thang!

Thank you for that information. I’m still hoping to get another axe or 2 from the estate..

Had a chance to buy a rare MQ 1.75lb hatchet head recently & was surprised at the VG overall finish quality!
I would have bought it in a heartbeat if I didnt already have a bunch of various heads to mount on handles.

Here's my Montgomery Wards Eclipse (Plumb) & you can see the overall finish isn't nearly as good as the Master Quality heads.
That is not a rust or pitting or usage problem, that is the actual original finish on the head, it's never been sharpened.

This 6lb monster council showed up today. I love it. 71435721868__B616B7BA-8ECB-41CF-BB03-B69630626294.jpeg

I think it’s gonna get this 32” handle

With some other 5 and 6s

I think the FE6 is gonna get rehung 32” straight for pounding wedges, maybe re profiled like a Wood Bullet, with a high centerline.

It appears to say KEENKUTTER on it, at least that’s the way it reads to me. I was told this was my Great Grandfather’s on the farm, and the one my Grandpa used to split firewood with as a kid on the farm..

We’re not sure the backstory on this one, but after a little cleaning I ended up revealing some blue paint. Could not make out any markings otherwise yet, but there’s more cleaning to be done..

And lastly this. Also supposed to be my Great Grandfather’s from the farm.

...or just cut and re profile that one where it's busted and give it a fat bullet splitting profile.

Any of y’all have one of the newer Husqvarna mauls? 15 min in today and noticed the poll mushrooming. They say it’s supposed to be hardened. Banging on council wedges in live oak.
Lower side of the striking face in the photo. Even with the gap at the back bottom of the head, it hasn’t loosened the handle one bit.

I have the small Forest axe and use the carpenters axe as a hatchet since I like the longer handle.
Both of those are made in Sweden. The maul (newest part number) had a tag stating made in Italy though. Only maker I can think would be or Prandi in Italy.

Shame that it’s out sourced out of Sweden , unfortunately it happens to often these days,
