Deeter’s 088 is what all the 1124s should have been from the Factory.

An improved 084.

The junk they are selling now as the 880 is a shame.

A Fellow has to spend $600-700 in addition to the purchase price to get a modern 88 to run like one should.

And that’s if the Saw itself is solid.

You're going to need a coil, intake boot, and carb to let a new 880 breathe like it should. After that, it's going to take porting to really wake it up. I see no reason a new 880 can't run with a 084 with the proper mods.

I'm going to have to have a look into my newer 880 to see what's different about it. It doesn't want to show any signs of being a lesser saw, and it's straight from the factory stock. I was running it with a guy who owns a few ported 088 and 880's and he wasn't very happy when he watched it cut.

The entire intake tract is choked down and the rev limiter is stupid low.
Well maybe not the entire intake, I'm looking at the ipl for both and it appears that the intake boot for the 880 is the same part number as the 084. At least those parts won't need upgraded.

Here is a new 880 intake.
3rd pic shows intake with 088 boot fitted
The carb is no longer a HT Tilly, it’s a Walbro with smaller bore

Agreed cuz

@Mastermind has quite a bit of knowledge in this debate as he's been in quite a few

I ported a new 880 and will never do another.
As said above, they need carb, boot, 361 coil and about 70 spit welds ground out to get the super restrictive baffle out of the muffler.
Is that the 880 with the clip on muffler?

Nevermind. Lol

One thing I'm noticing about this 880 is the intake connection at the carb is weak. Resting a straight edge flat against the white plastic backing lets it barely touch the rubber flange with no pressure up against it. Because of that there is seepage between there which means it will be leaking under load and giving up torque.
This saw hasn't had two full tanks through it yet so I'm wondering if there's a design flaw there. I'm going to install a rubber washer behind the boot flange to give the carb a tighter seal.
