I use a mandrel with a cutter in it. I would cut .040" out first and then .100" off the base. Then check.

You want to just get the ring where it won't hang, every cylinder will be different but you want to cut as little as possible from the base.

I cut the base first then cut the chamber for a 020 squish. There's a fine line of getting the ring outof the intake and not free porting it. Some cylinders aren't good for it.

There dang sure is a fine line...... And I'm on the other side of that line, mine freeports. I'll wait for a nice 660 to see how mine runs

I know why I have worked out .060 from the squish
I am measuring direct up and down distance but the distance will change with the arc of the motor.

I will measure it again aiming to stop the ring catching.
Will probably be about .070
