Good or bad?

Makes no difference really, I will be selling it once done.

I got it together and the effen thing would not go.
lots of spark, but no matter what I do with the carb screws, it floods, and I am talking 6 pulls and it runs back out when I tip the saw up on its end.
I blow it all out and it will pop but then it just floods again.

Going to strip the carb again. There is something very wrong.
But by the time I track down a carb kit for the Tilotson I may as well just buy a new Chinese carb and bolt it on. I need to order a chain adjuster anyway.

Brewz,

That should be a standard Tillotson kit, your dealer will probably have it in stock. Not sure about down under but here they are like $18.00

Mate I can guarantee I wont be able to find one unless ordered in for $50

I am going to pull the carb off tomorrow to make sure I didn't put an intake track gasket in back the front or something silly.

The other thing with the Tillys is the nipple on the metering diaphragm must be hooked into the fulcrum lever for the inlet needle, it does not simply sit on top like a Walbro or Zama. It is also easy to miss on assembly, BELIEVE me!

Check pop off pressure. If your metering lever is set to high the pump diaphragm will trip the needle to quick and flood it. Also check for any weeping welch plugs. Shaun has also fixed a few 395 carbs for me that had been over tightened into the needle seats that were flooding like crazy. Just a few more things to look for...

I found a leaking welch plug in a 200t carb.....and the correct kit didn't have the right plug. That sucks. I sealed it with nail polish. Checking for leaking welch plugs is easy to do, and should be a habit on a carb rebuild. Who checks them, and what is your method?

I will from now on. But first I need to learn how...

I use the pressure checker with a jar of water. Seat the hi & lo screws lightly, pressurize to .5 bar or 7 PSI and dunk in jar of water. Using a suitable tool give the metering diaphragm a slight poke through the hole in the cover to take the needle off its seat to pressurize metering chamber(should be a pressure drop on gauge noted here). If leaking you can see the where the bubbles are coming from hi or lo side to know which welch plug is leaking.
If bubbles come out the little hole in the cover then the diaphragm is no good.
I try not to use sealant if I can help it, but have had to on several occasions in the past when it was unavoidable. As I have found pieces of flaked off sealant in carbs before, so if I have to I do so sparingly.

Opened up the 268 carb.
Metering lever was really high and I think the diaphragm was not hooked to it.

Adjusted to where it should be and off she went.

IT'S ALIVE :)

Good man, those Tillys on the 2xx series are almost indestructible, I don't think I have ever had one that a bath and a kit wouldn't fix.

I held it to the sky and gave it a victory rev.

Something only people here would understand :)
No no no. I do that if the skidder is close by and I just threaded the needle with one of these
