Photo0793.jpg Photo0792.jpg This little sucker has had me stomping off to the kitchen for more coffee on and off over the last few days !!
Bought as having "Carb Trouble" ...Uhhh Yea ! Found a Brand new fuel line with a tinny hole ...That will be it then ...Nope !
Had already taken the carb off and pressure tested the impulse and striped the carb ( Tillitson 54) down. I ..WASN'T.. familiar with that carb...am now!! after full ultrasonic clean ,new kit,and rectifying the metering lever setting that I found to be "way" high
I fit a new non genuine Fuel line that iv used in a ms 310 recently without issues ...big NO NO ! in this case . Traced the total lack of fire to the line not being able to stop its self collapsing with the arduous route it takes on a 024. None genuine line hasn't got rings formed on the tube all the way up to the end nearest the gland that pushes over the carb nipple. Proved the fault by making my own out of Tygon and a grommet ...prefect.
Lesson 1..don't bother with aftermarket lines that have to make very tight and twisting turns on a 024 !!
Lesson 2..Finding the metering lever set to high could have been (by the seller) a vain attempt to aid with fuel starvation because the none genuine line on there irrespective of the tinny hole , would not be letting fuel through ether
as the substitute one I fitted was the same .

064 whoa's continues. Been a tad hot on the clutch side.

Inlet side.

Exhaust

But the jug is a tad worn. And damaged by the ring near the squish.

The one ring that's still in one piece did well to hold comp considering the ring gap!

Excuse my ignorance please Vince ...Im assuming its a bit on the HOT side in your part of the world ?? Saws not running cool enough may be something your up against and if there not kept clean I would guess there in even more peril ?

I have found that to be the case on several Stihl saws. Most notably the 024-260 and the 029-390 saws. The aftermarket fuel lines for these Stihls are thin trash. If anyone knows of a decent substitute, I'm all ears...

I would assume it was from overworking the saw. Pushing through cuts with a dull chain, running too aggressive of a chain, or having too many teeth on the sprocket. If it was due to temp alone, it would show up on both sides.

Point taken Mark ...mine was a more general point rather than suggesting this was the cause of the problem in the pics. I figure saws get a hard time of it in hotter places and the cooling is more critical so clean fans and fins must be a help .

Yeah like mentioned. Not atmosphere conditions but how it was used and abused[emoji17]
