Not me, but my back is often sore after I do some milling.

The bending over and pushing the saw does take it's toll!
Thats my problem to. Back hurts after if i do too much.
Got these mapke boards made today. Got three more logs to work on, two maple and a walnut. Just make a few boards a day and its not too bad.

I do. I got the Granberg winch because I didn't want to build my own. It definetly helps with the strain on the body.

That looks a lot easyer lol.
Does that have any gear reduction? Looks like its just anpully with a handle welded. If so a cheap guy like me could make one.

Made new stairs for the guesthouse, old was rotten.
Was a fallen pine I slabed last year, first time milling, pretty addictive. Cut the boards to size on a tablesaw.

So whats better? To push mill straight down the log or go like a seasaw. It seems way quicker going like a sea saw vs straight down.
Sorry for the newby questions haha. Just getting into this and its kinda addictive.

Square filed chain leaves better finish than round filed chain too. In my experiences.
So for my first chain I just conerted my regular full chissel by grinding to 10 degreese. I will eventually try a propper.milling chain bit if I am gonna just convert a couple for now, whats better a chissel or semi chisel chain?

IMO, for milling, I like square file the best, but have also used narrow curf chain. Stihl narrow curf for milling is only available through Logosol.

Stihl dealers can't get it.

I seesaw when I mill, especially if the slab is hard and wide.

I think it puts less stress on the saw, and leaves a more attractive pattern.

I don't plain the wood, or fully sand the lines out.

A bit OT but I am looking to upgrade my mill I can only cut 24" wide at the moment, going to need a new bar as my biggest is 30", will 3/8LP cut faster than standard 3/8, is it narrower kerf and easier on the powerhead? Im considering a 42" gb 3/8lp bar with oregon 3/8lp ripping chain, chain is called 91R.

I thought 3/8lp was used for small saws so question is if it will hold milling on a husky 394?

You can only use full chisel to convert to square. Semi chisel will not work at all.
I just use regular 3/8" chain.

Now I am at a stabd still. I ran out of fuel lol. The saw sure does like to drink

Haven't built anything yet, but I have big hopes for these cherry slabs. Norwood PM14 mill. Saves the back as I can mill standing up. Worked great once after playing around with getting the log on the bunks.
