Finished building my 2ng gun cabinet today, a smaller one for mounting on the wall up at the cabin.

I'll take some pics of them both after I put a finish on it.

They are both 4' wide and hold 9 guns upright at 45*.

Haven't built anything yet, but I have big hopes for these cherry slabs. Norwood PM14 mill. Saves the back as I can mill standing up. Worked great once after playing around with getting the log on the bunks.

My advice would be to move your stickers to the outside of your stack and have them in a vertical line. I would also add two more sets of stickers.

And try using the same wood for stickers as was milled. Had to plane alot of wood to get the stains outta my milled boards. I might even be motivated enough to undo my stacks and make stickers with a white oak thats close by ………….. one lesson learned
:(

How agressive do you set your rakers for milling? Even with guage? Little more aggresive? Whats you method for sharpening chains? Hand file or grinder? If grinder whats you angle setting all at.
I believe my grinder is set to 10 degreese top plate and 50 ish for the other setting. (Not sure what that setting is called)

For square file I do it by hand, and just use judgement for the rakers (I don't measure).

For round file 10* is good, and one of those 12V grinders with a diamond stone will save you a bunch of time. They come with a little guide attached.

I think I promised some pics:

A gun cabinet for the house, a gun cabinet to wall mount on the cabin, and shelves for the cabin.

Both gun Cabinets are milled Red Oak and plywood, the shelves are Hickory and Red Oak.

Used Spar Urethane on the house gun cabinet and Teak Oil on everything else.

IMO, the finish looks pretty similar!

Thanks for the reply guys... Didn't think about using the same material for stickers. I had some really warped 2x4's that I just cut up on the table saw.

Has anyone ever tried using stickers made from HDPE or similar?

Making a new handle for a Oshkosh Wis Cant from a 6' piece of Hop Hornbeam!

The tree co threw it away because the handle was broken.

I think this one will be stronger than the original!

For a workbench, I just C clamped it to my wood trailer!

It may not be pretty, but it works well! 6' handle provides lots of leverage, Hop Hornbeam provides lots of strength, and the large diameter makes it comfortable to carry on your shoulder.

Finished with Teak Oil.

Very Nice!

I just finished my gun cabinet today, after installing the brackets for the sliding glass. It was a real PITA to get it to work with my live edge wood, and my work is a lot more "rustic" than yours.

Since it will be inside, I stained some of it with the walnut stain I made from walnuts. Takes a few coats, but works OK for indoor stuff.
