Maybe one of the case halves bearing cups is slightly off-center forcing the crank to move eccentric eccentric Lee and fatigue

View attachment 101347 View attachment 101348 View attachment 101349 Case came apart but crank ends were still in bearings.
I figured this is a tough little saw as it must ran quit awhile with a broken crank until it took out the seal and wouldn’t run any more. Definitely evidence inside and by looking at the break that it seen some use after it broke. View attachment 101352Never seen a crank break like this!!! Anyone else??? Lower rod bearing was still in good shape and functional.
Guess I’ll need to find a new pre assist start crank if my plans are to continue.
I got this with using a 51 Husky piston or at least playing around to see what works. Setback but not defeated.....yet.

does dolmar have a case splitter in there service tool line up?

5104D316-BBC0-4DB1-847E-E40DDD645611.jpeg I’m sure they do..... this is what I use...43E17CD9-EBD2-413E-90AA-0C781ECCB2FB.jpegThe one on the right is what I use for small cases....or a unique case like stuffers in the crank. It works pretty much on any saw.
The one on the left I use with larger saws and also use it to pull bearings off the crank after I get it out with either puller I use.
I’m thinking H & L Supply had the one on the left in their Friday sale add....at a GREAT price!!!

Stihl Dealer here would charge $40.00 for their assessment(we can't fix it) and say you can have that much off a new one. Your old saw then disappears...
Then wonder why the parking lot is empty.

More work waiting...
2-Stihl 390’s bearings and???
Stihl 026????? Bearings
575-bearings and ????
Jonsred 2071- bearings and???
Johns Red 2077 not shown- bearings and???

These are a Dealers saws.... if you cant bolt it on they don’t do it. They don’t split cases....just say it’s shot and buy it for a song and I get them to fix so they can resell them. They furnish most of the part other than the Stihl’s I buy but their getting greedy and wanting a kickback on parts I buy and put in a saw....the relationship may soon end if they continue...

Tales from the bench... so I was working on my MS460. Re installing the big brake spring... using linemans pliers to grab and push to get the hook end caught hunkered over the saw... needless to say pliers slipped and boink, right into the forehead! And my thumb caught the saw somewhere! The forehead was deep, ripped my thumb wide open, was a bloody mess and had a headache afterwards...lol lesson learned, never slip on this again...lol
The scar like over a month later. Good I didn't hit me eyeball!
