Snow outside, my job today is stay inside and be lazy. Just getting over a cold, anything I get done is a bonus.
Yes that’s an old desk (Freebie was going to be hauled off for junk) as my work table. I call it my outdoor office.

1/3/25.....Cut some big dead ash on my Dad’s property amidst all his junk piles. Got to break in the 550xp that I gave a major porting to with a pop up piston & new cylinder a few weeks ago. The second tree in the pics was leaning 7-8 degrees the wrong direction and I had to make multiple cuts to try and get it to go the other way….. which it didn’t 🤦🏼‍♂️It broke and pulled it roots right out before I could even get it finished. Of course my father thought he could just push it over after it was hinge cut with his Kobota ….lol. I finally convinced him to rope n snatch block it instead of me having to power wash his guts off the tractor when it goes the wrong direction. The real issue was the mud that defeated the traction we needed.

I made some piston rings for an old British Villiers 2 stroke. The top end gap is 0.25mm second ring 0.30mm. Land gap 0.07mm and a back clearance of 0.175mm. I’m erring on the side of caution a little all round as I don’t have exact measurements from the (non existent) workshop manual and I’m not a competent machinist. They’re still much tighter than what came out of the engine. I spent many hours researching clearances - my scribbles at the end are about as good as you’ll get from me.

Continued breaking in the 550 by clearing out the trail/tubing run behind my parents property. Lot more wood in there then I expected. That big 30” ash tree came down about a month ago in one of the wind storms. It took out like 7-8 others the size of telephone poles.

I made a bullet style nozzle and cap. Threebond is great but it sets quick if you apply with your fingers due to volatile carriers, in a bead you get much longer work times. Hence the nozzle. Not a nice finish as it slipped in the jaws, but I was over it by the end, it’s functional, that’s fine. IMG_4083.jpegIMG_4084.jpeg

Picked up a Stihl ms660 today from cash converters. Australian version MS660. Low hour and much loved saw out here. RRP for them is around circa $1700. They were asking for $1200 but went down to $900. Came with 25” stihl bar and chain

Went over it with a fine tooth comb and looks completely un-molestered. IMG_4114.jpegIMG_4113.jpegIMG_4115.jpegIMG_4116.jpeg
