I have the Carlton version of the 511A, I was not too happy with the results using the pink vitrified wheels but once I spent the $$ and got the CBN wheel I was very pleased. I sharpen a lot of 3/8 LP and .325 chains for locals so I leave the 1/8" wheel on the Carlton all the time.

Out of curiosity, what was your main problem with them?

You can also sharpen 3/8 standard chains with a 1/8'' wheel.
You just need to be more careful not to grind too deeply into the cutter if you want to avoid too small a side plate angle.

A long time ago, this was the standard wheel thickness for 3/8. Currently, Tecomec allows the use of such a wheel for everything from 1/4 to 3/8.

I felt like the vitrified wheels loaded up or glazed over very easily leading to overheating of the chains. Grinding seems to be pretty slow as well.

I do have a 1/4 wide vitrified wheel in one grinder that I use exclusively for the depth gauges and I don't have any complaints about that one.

I have a 3/16" CBN wheel in a newer Tecomec grinder for 3/8" and .404 chains so I don't have to change them.

I put the three chain grinders and the Bailey's bar rail grinder on a "lazy susan" so I just rotate it as needed for each task.
