Had the same problem last year with bad lines on my FS45. The carb on the one I acquired (also at a yard sale) had a high speed jet tip was broken off from likely being turned in to far.View attachment 418154
friend of mine just picked up this Stihl FS45 trimmer for $20 at a yard sale. the guy told him "it wouldn't run so I replaced the carb (chinese close, threw the stock one away) & still wouldn't run"

I've make repairs using folgers coffee cans cut into strips and for heat used a flat electric soldering iron. YRMVplastic weld maybe
