Al, Nice job on this build for Mr RIChevy. I really enjoy your descriptions, details, and photos of your builds. Keep up the good work.....

Oh, by the way, the Stihl 044 you did for me was excellent. You made this old man happy. Thanks again.

Jack

So......

I made the fatal mistake of trusting that the member that sold me the saw checked everything out before the sale. Second mistake, not running it before I ported it.

So it passed the vac test after the jug was set on, but I had left the handle and carb intact. The WT194 was apparently new.

Last time I'll do this. So I think I found the idle issue. No ring in the boot and a torn impulse line. I will run it again real soon.

The piston is fine thank god. image.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpeg

The last guy that touches the saw is "it".

not to derail the thread but how well do the 44mm 026 perform modded, ported?

i might price a 44.7mm top end from stihl muhahaha.
@Stihlbro has one for sale.

I have an NWP 44.7 on my bench right now. @Definitive Dave has them in stock.

The quality is the best I've seen so far in an AM jug. I plan on timing it soon and doing a build thread with one.

You can always justify another saw.

Hey, Al. This isn't the 026 I sold you, right? It sort of looks like mine, except for the red lever and rusty muffler.
I can be a dumba**, but I'm a honest dumba**.

Looking forward to the thread and the numbers. I've tried several 44.7 jugs of the aftermarket persuasion with no real satisfaction.
Curious to know if the NWP numbers may be even close to a OEM Stihl 44.7 jug.

Did the implulse line have the Stihl "S" emblem moulded into the end which fits the carb. It looks shiney like a cheap chinese line -- they are way too soft for me.
The fuel line is it oem or no?

It's the saw you sold me. I don't think you did anything intentionally and it was a cheap fix. I changed the lever because Jeff liked the red lever look.

The saw had no major issues.

I'm not sure. It's in the round file now.

The NWP is the best I've seen so far Tom. Hoping to get some numbers tonight.

Two great parts I see already though. The squish band is unplated, so cutting it should be a breeze. The tunnels look like they have good direction.

You boys made me curious, so I tossed the NWP on my builder case.

The potential for this jug is impressive to say the very least.

Base thickness is .280-300. That's 30 thicker at its thinnest point as compared to any factory 026/260 I've met so far.

The exhaust port is the typical AM smaller area port and the ex roof needs cleanup.

But the numbers look great.

Prelim are 101/122/69 with no gasket.

I'm pretty excited about this jugs potential.

I'll post squish measurements and porting pics as time allows. Will do a build thread.

My plan will be to build one for the CT GTG to run against the other 4 DRF026/260 that will be there.

Good news! Perhaps at some point it will be possible to purchase a "slightly massaged" NWP jug to test run in the Tarheel State(?) As long as I can use a stock piston.
I have a candidate if you come up with a confident prospect :D
