I have many electric brushless RC cars and trucks. I use IR temp guns to check motor can temps to set up proper gearing. I remember a few years ago reading, (more than once) on RC forums, that different finishes on metal motors can affect temperature readings. Different colors/painted any shiny surfaces can give different temp results. I think IR Guns can't always measure temps properly on shiny surfaces. I tried to search for some of the discussions that I read, but couldn't find them. But I did find this...

This write up seems to say that you'll get the most accurate temperature reading of a shiny surface if you paint it black.
From what I gathered, polished steel would give a much lower reading.

FWIW I have never owned a vehicle that didn't have a painted radiator. Evaporators and radiators serve reverse functions. The former collects heat from the outside air and transfers it to the circulating refrigerant; the later collects heat from the circulating coolant and transfers it to the outside air.

I don't know if a chainsaw bar acts as a cooling fin or a heat source in normal applications as I don't know the temperatures of each component, but the principles T1 raise are correct - heat moves to the cool. Gloss surface reflect more and dull surfaces absorb more. Interesting test would be operating chain temperatures on a clear coat bar, a flat black bar and a bare bar. Same test for temperatures at bar mount.

R u saying the tubing and fins on your vehicle radiator have paint on them?

KG, IDK but it may be more of a corrosion measure for copper and brass. Some aluminum radiator tubes aren't painted. Ron

I wonder if its some sorta special paint? For emitting heat?

Once again I don't know. May also be for aesthetics. I worked for awhile in the early 70s with a distributor of Moline radiators. IIRC they were all a glossy black. Though it doesn't take long for grime to dull them out. Heater cores were bare. Ron

What a shame

That was right before the Tragic Boating Accident.

All my accessories were lost too.

I now have a Glock brand rape whistle, but never get a chance to practice using it.

I understand once I have honed my skills, the Flying Circle J is the place to be.
