Ya but thats all thats down here Randy. I see a few 044, 440, 026 on occassions to repair but mostly Poulans, small huskies, ms170, 180, 210, 250, 251. 290 farmboss and husky 455 ranchers and jonesered equals r popular here. Even logging outfits buy polesaws and TSC Jonsereds and such. U wont find for the most part around here anyone spending 1200 to 1400 on a 661c. It just dont happen

Yeah.......I get that. I do saws for some crews around here. At one time they were working with whatever they could buy cheap. Now they are running ported pro saws and talking about how much more productive that makes them.

Most logging outfits here rarely use a saw. Flat land down here lets machines get around pretty good

Seen that on both side of me on flat areas. Taking pines on one side with cutter and stack.
Then one side clearing land, just mulching trees down from the top. I was like wth.

Yep. Most trimming on the set here is done with a ht100 or ht101 Stihl polesaw

Neither do we Dallas. They use harvesters to collect the little pines in the tree farms that are on some of the ridges here.......but this year is the last time they are gonna be any to harvest. They are all being clear cut for pasture ground.

99% of the time in my neck of the woods keith when a guy hears around 300 bucks to fix a saw he has had for years he just buys a new saw.

You get a ringer here and there on big displacement saws where a guy accidentally sraight gassed one or somethin stupid happens and then the guy will say ... ya id rather spend 300 bucks instead of 1000 and up.

But that isnt common for the simple fact most crews around here that do removals seldom use a 90cc saw...maybe a few times a year so the saw doesnt get much use...i know a guy that bought an 066 in 1993 that used it maybe 3 times a year since...it looks almost new , just doesnt take enough trees to wear it out.

Yes. But guys here buildem bigger and better than new! And more more useable and faster. Lol

Ive tried to tell many guys i know in the business..they arent interested in shipping a saw 2 ways and payin 300 dollars for a performance upgrade that doesnt make any difference in how they take trees down..it is what it is.

But atleast i have a few of my sawing associates running eth free gas and keepin air filters clean..that was a big step in itself.

Oh...and i had a few try the muffler mod thing...most just *b-worded about how loud the saw is.

And....i know the online porters are heros to some guys on here..but if i asked a guy i know in the tree business if he knew who "mastermind" is he would probably ask me if its a chinese buffet....no offense randy.

Next id like to get the guys i know/work with to make an effort to run a sharp chain or atleast somewhat close....thats apparently a big step too.

The same goes here, the days of the gyppo logger are all but gone. They just can't compete with the big outfits with machines. I'll be honest here as well, I would hazard to guess that I can not see a reason to ever buy one of your new kits, not because I don't like it, but because I'll never see a saw of that size to put it on, they just aren't here in this area much to speak of. The few that are around sit in a corner of a shop and rarely get used at all. Let alone trying to sell someone on an upgrade for something they do not use, to them it works good enough when they do need it, as it is.
That being said there is a ton of saws around. When I engage the pea in head and think about it, most folks are pretty happy with their smaller pro saws that they do use. This is where I believe we're missing the boat so to speak. What saws are out there in massive numbers and could actually benefit from a power upgrade the most? It's not the pro saws at all, it's the farm/ranch saws. Figure out a way to make an affordable upgrade kit for this class of saw, the world will beat a path to your door. I can open any garage or shop door around here and see a MS290 or a 455 Rancher. I could sell the bajeezers out of something like that.
Any who, I'll dis-engage my pea now, carry on!

Seem to be a heck of a lot of MS 460s in use around here, and IMO, they respond very well to a little porting!

Most modern saws respond well to a little porting..thats been covered 10000000 times...we get it.

Theres alot of 046/460s in use here too...and when they die about 5% will get rebuilt.

A few thoughts...

Jack Roush didn't make his name creating performance upgrades for the Toyota Prius.

No offense, Randy, but I'd stick with the pro saws for now. Worry about plastic saws when Walmart calls asking about stocking a performance kit for the MS290.

Guys who go for performance and durability (pro saw) are guys who are going to go for a performance upgrade as well.

Part of the equation (marketing) is convincing them that the upgrade is not only what they want, it's what they need.

The audience here is already convinced. We'll mod ANYTHING!!! (Wildthing anyone?)

Keep thinking long term.

just my 2 cents...
