Top pic on the right. It looks like spark plug threads coming to a point. Are you worried about the point of the threads being a weak point and breaking off?
Nope, nor preignition from a hot spot.

There's alot of meat there, more than it seems.

I like the build thread, doc. Cool to see someone else do these things too. I'm doing something similar with a 7900.

Perhaps Clint assumed everyone knew about the failure rate of the pin. Perhaps he could have dropped the breadcrumb trail a little more subtly.
That being said, I didn't know about the pin failure rate, but I'm glad WE do now. He brought up a point that may have saved us all a bunch of $ and embarrssment a few tanks down the road.

Keep up the good work

Good point Kevin. There ain’t no right or wrong on a build thread. Whether something works or fails, somebody learns something in the end. Thinking outside of the box is keeps things interesting. Carry on........

One wonders why noone wants to post build threads. I do it to try to keep this place interesting.

Hearing the negatives gets old, especially when opined in a malignant and not constructive kinda way.
From an end users stand point, I appreciate the time spent making these threads. I'll never be building saws to this extent but sure like to follow along when other do. Thanks for allowing me to.

I also dig these threads. Please don’t stop creating them.

And on the Ti pin, only thing I know is in the motorcycle world they’ve tried con rods many times without great success. The Ti loses strength as it gets hot causing it to be more malleable, stretching with the change in direction of forces. Wouldn’t stop me from trying one, I would make sure my squish was on the higher side though.

The pin will be Jack's call.

I'll swap it out every 30 tanks if he wants, free of charge exc for parts and shipping, or I will change to a stock pin at first exam.

Not sure if the first comment was directed towards me??? I thought my imformation was very constructive about the failure, maybe not? Wasn't trying to "bash" your build, More give you and everyone else a heads up about the failure. Do as you please, Just trying to save future headaches and cost.

I enjoy reading your threads. keep them coming, sir

Fanks sir. You took the words right out of my mouth, lol

The weisco pistons have a small hole on the bottom of each pin boss. Possibly for lubricating these Ti pins better? Maybe such a thing could be done to your 272 piston Doc.
Not sure why they put a hole in the bottom of the boss. The pin shouldn't be rotating in the bosses, so no need for lube.

The SR 71 airframe was made from ti because of its strength and the entire plane saw some very very extreme heat.
Not when you add heat

EDIT:
When an SR-71 Blackbird is at Mach 3, how hot is the airframe? A: At speeds of Mach 3 (3 times the speed of sound) the SR- 71 Blackbird's airframe temperature can range from 315-480 degrees Celcius (600-900 degrees Farenheit), depending on its altitude.

I'm curious to see how she runs, but I'm guessing it'll be just fine with only 152 psi. If he's running a short, say, 20" bar on this all the time I bet you'll never be able to tell whether it has 150 or 200 psi other than the lower comp saw will have better over rev in small wood.

Does lower compression affect fuel consumption?
