Im kind of surprised at how “soft” the case aluminum is too. While trying to clean it up a bit and get the old gasket off I noticed it doesn’t take much to scratch it.

Yep, the mag is very soft.

Probably why they went to the steel bearing pockets

Finished up the 590”PW” today. Haven’t fired it yet, but it’s got a pretty strong pull on the rope. No gasket and squish is at .029. The 620 p/c has a real narrow squish band I noticed too.
Tomorrow we shall see how/if it runs! I ditched the spark screen and buzzed the lower baffle out of the muffler deflector. I’m going to have to brainstorm something to do with the muffler since it’s kind of odd.

2 1/4" holes under the deflector.

Bigger if you like louder.

Not the best place to cut, but it’s what I had.
I really like the torque! On the second cut when I stopped and popped the throttle twice while leaning on it from a dead stop it didn’t hesitate to drag the chain right up to speed.
Tach said around 11 in the cut. Definitely going to be a fun one and I think I’m going to put a 24 on it the 20 is a bit short with the full wrap.

Well been awhile since this thread was active. Wondering how all the echo are doing? Any dynoed? I got my new degree wheel and tach. So I hooked it up and ran saw on 3 month old mix @40* I was disappointed. Leaned it but still not up to par. Newer gas, sharpened chain and 15*, saw is rocking again. My tach uses a wire rapped around spark plug lead. $13 it only updates twice a second. But I saw 13,5 once on free rev and noodling full bar in hard cherry(well as hard as it gets lol) I could use spikes and pull it down to 8700 but cut good at 9500 to 10k. Learning a lot on forum. This forum is very generous with their knowledge. I'm ordering a 90* mini die grinder and going for it. Hope to make it to Joe's@red97 for a spring dyno test. Not sure what to hope for but thinking it's running 4hp+ right now. I just got rec fuel 90 and red armor ( really liked on arborist site)at 40 to 1 and will make some timed cuts tomorrow. Saw has mm and carb jet to allow carb setting. I would like to hear anything new on these. Thanks from new guy

Stock rating is 4hp. Comparing to other stock saws I think I get about 6.0hp from a 590 with porting. Most saws will run very well at 9500rpm in the cut.

Ok looks like I will hope for 6hp. That seems like a huge improvement. I like the saw better than my 357xp in one respect. The husky leaked on floor always. They seem close in cutting but the xp was lighter, only had a 18" bar vs 20" echo.

My saw is three yrs old. So I will shoot for 6hp. Anyone using the $50 foam air filter mod? Better or worse?
