Well, been pretty sick this weekend and didn't have the energy to do much...but I sat down at my bench and started playing with that Work Sharp. That's a damn fine tool! I thought it might be a little gimmicky or cheesy, but it is NOT AT ALL! After practicing on some cheap knives for about 20 minutes or so I got em so sharp I could shave with em.

On another sharpener note, got the elite KO. Used the basic setup for doing an initial sharpening, was very surprised with the ease of use and the results were very well received. sharpened/dressed 12 knives in less than an hour.

That’s awesome to hear. :beer-toast1:

Take the main grinder piece, no guides, swivel the belt and it makes a great mower blade sharpener. Just clamp the blade in a vise and have at it.

If your left cutters are short, you need to rotate the dial to the next size bigger driver gauge. If they still aren’t the same, turn it another click. Once they are both relatively the same, you have to pop the snap ring and dial off the front and reinstall it where it lines up with whichever gauge chain you are using
When are you going to be in Georgia?

I’ve got the no patience when it comes to scales not being accurate- something about all that LS Starrett stuff I was raised on.

I want to sling my Oregon Grinder by the stand & see how far I can send it hammer throwing style.

Just gotta spend an hour dedicated to it to get it dialed in

Man, after looking at several youtube vids on a USG with the foot pedal, I want one.
Talk me out of it.
there are a few mods for the foot pedal that improve its operation.
I placed a spring inside the cable holder at the vice end to assist it to
open the jaws and clamp the vice. I used an 8 inch piece of stiff hose
at the pedal end to straighten the cable at the pedal end, cutting the
friction from a bent over cable . !

Do you generally use the Stihl recommended angle presets for Stihl or Oregon chain?

25*-30* top plate angle, and yes, tilt chain 10* for more efficient chip flow, faster cut. Works for my needs anyway.
So Stihl recommends the "B" setting on the USG, which is the bottom tray setting of +15º/-15º which is the tilt angle on 3/8"chain. But I see 10º is the recommended norm? Maybe the B tray setting is not actually the true tilt angle on the USG?

Yes, they duplicate the33rs angles perfectly.I did deviate to T20 & minus 20 yesterday
with a cbn wheel and I think there is slightly more hook
the advantage of the USG is there is no need to adjust the angles like a oregon
due to the presice and tight tolerances of this machine
