I just sat an 044 cyl on an 036 case and it at least sits flat with no interference from anything.
Intake boot lines up, a cooling fin needs trimming for the chain brake to trip.
I don't have a 10mm 044 piston or crank so that's as far as I go...

Maybe I am thinking about this wrong, but if the total stroke is 2mm different, wouldn't you only have to take 1mm off the base?
To be more precise I'd take just enough off the base to put the squish where I want it.


The bore on the 044 slant fin jug is right about 2.4mm taller than the 036. That measurement was taken from the base to the edge of the squish band.
Both the 10mm 044 and the 036 pistons have the same pin to crown height. The 044 skirt is 1.6mm longer.
That puts the cut pretty close to 2mm if not using a base gasket.

I could see Adam getting pretty good gains out of one- he's done some awesome builds. His last MS-880 build was one of the best production saw builds I've ever seen.
He does build great saws
