So threw some gas in her and she fired.
It’s got a Chinese carb on it and it would start on choke and rev up fine but couldn’t get it to idle. Engine was vacuum/pressure tested and was fine. I don’t think the idle adjust screw is opening the throttle plate enough to hold the idle. I did notice the notch in the throttle plate is much smaller than an OEM carb.

Should I try making the notch larger? The idle adjust screw is all the way in and isn’t enough. Either that or it’s a junk Chinese carb. Any thoughts?

If it won' idle and the idle screw is all the way rich but can get it to run by openng the throttle I would say your correct on the throttle plate hole. It' an indicator the saw needs more air to run.
I would drill a hole in the plate as its very easy to repair if yu ou go too far and need to make it smaller again if you findo a sweet spot.
I'm also with Jim on giving it some time and adjustments on a first start on a build like this. You just have to try to figure out what it' asking for to get it to run and diagnose if it' rich or lean by checking for a wet plug and a lot of smoke or a dry plug and not wanting to start unless primed.

It starts right up on choke and runs on fast idle/choke. Will rev and run great but let off the throttle and it’s acting like it’s not getting enough air and idle is too low.

I’m going to pull it off and open the notch up larger( to the same size as an oem carb to start with) and see how it goes from there. I did notice that it seemed strange that the throttle plate has such a small hole when I put it on. Maybe that’s all they had at the time when assembling in China. Hopefully that works, if not I’ll put on a known good carb off my 044.

You could check the plug. Is it soaked with mix or dry?

Low speed Needle from spare carb on top, low speed needle from current carb on bottom.
Not sure if it’s broken off inside or was just like that - great china quality.
There is also fuel on the back side of the diaphragm, I think it has a pin hole.
This was a new carb!

Going to swap on the spare carb I got

I should have one for ya. “Good” is the issue.

I’ll try to look through my pile tonight or tomorrow. I can bring to the gtg, or try to get it in the mail this week.
