Fit and finish is not like OEM, but I only had one where the brake flag was defective, all the rest worked, but I did have to enlarge the hole on the inside of the brake flag to get them to fit over the post. All mine seem to grip the clutch well. I installed a 460 flag (needed a few washers, it is wider) to get the defective one working. I left it on as it seems to have a little more space above the muffler than the 440 flag.

Well,

Here’s the AM impulse line which @paragonbuilder sliced in half for science.

No apparent flap or other issue seen. So we are postulating one of two things is happening.

First, it’s softer and not transmitting the appropriate pulse to the carb to pump fuel.

Secondly, the the bend inside is slightly off and it’s hitting the already too long barb opening in the barbed fitting and occluding the opening in it.

Please forgive the bad artwork, but imagine the yellow line being the barb coming out of the case. If you’re having issues, pull the line slightly off the fitting a bit more and see if the issue is gone. At least for me, the case end of the impulse line didn’t seat fully on the case like it does on an oem case.

It’s seeming like the top cover is the only usable part of this kit. Even my AF cover has to have the rear hole lowered to fit onto the back of the saw.

It’s interesting because looking at this impulse line I’d say it can’t be the problem. I switched in an 8 year old oem 460 line. Oem is noticeably stiffer, but it could be age. The oem also does not seat to the case. The AM line does not have a shoulder to sit against so when trying to get it to seat, it’s possible it was partially occluded as you said. I see this as more probable than the line collapsing, as I could not get it to collapse with my mitivac.

The most frustrating part is the problem comes and goes. Need some more time to be sure this was the problem, but it makes sense with how the saw was getting no fuel, and the carb has been ruled out.

Yup, that would work, or cut it shorter. Or push it into the case more. It came assembled in the case already. Something to look at for those that are building these.

Once you’re done, you could plug tube with something retrievable, file end down, and pull whatever you placed in tube out to prevent filings from entering case. But that’s a tall order to do.

How about 55cc farm and ranch saws , every manufacturer makes one and they would be a challenge

building this kit really makes you appreciate fit and finish on OEM saws. Before there was a China 660 thread here I had a guy bring me what looked like a red light 066. Said it wasn't running right. I called him shorty after he left. China crankcase, flywheel,coil and top end surrounded by OEM parts. I had countless hours tracking down what was causing it. Root problem was about .050 exhaust free porting. I literally had my head in my hands on the bench after the 5th pressure/vac test looked over and saw the gap under the piston skirt.

Every time I tore that saw apart it took twice as long to reassemble.....tweaking and bending every part to fit. I put a new top end on it and sent it on its way praying I'd never have to see it again. Saw came back a month later. Needle bearing failed on the wrist pin....... kaboom
