I don’t know about the splitting, to me axes are for wedge pounding.
( felling wedge) I’ve got a splitter for the wood. But you could make that thing a little more wedge friendly with some careful grinding, look at the pic of my ax snd notice the rounded dome like shape of the beating surface, makes it much easier to use. Those squared off councils are wedge eating fûckers. Especially on steep or rough ground where it’s hard to get a perfectly level swing But they work good after you change the profile a little.

Good point, I will. The kid who hung my little 3# beveled it too much and the small poll and the small wedge are just too small targets.

I like the look of this for splitting but no way I’m paying that. I’ll just keep grinding on my maul.

I ordered an “old style” council banger this weekend as well as a Mann rafting head.

I have a feeling I’m going to end up making my own splitter/banger…chopping is for saws 😁

If you build your own axes, you’re not going to know which thread to post in: this one or the metalworking thread 🤣

I think overall, Mann heads are my favorite.
Especially the Knot Klippers.
The heat treat just seems better to me, & they hold a excellent edge (possible harder Rockwell Hardness?).
I've had several in the past & need to find another one.
