So after felling for two days with @Woodslasher my 3lb is too light for anything but…light stuff and the poll is annoyingly small.

I like my 5lb faller’s axe but I I want more handle. I noticed it splits pretty good too so thinking maybe a council 5lb 36” splitting axe. Thoughts? Thanks!
You’re looking for a wedge banger length ?

No, I have one 28” for packin’. I want one longer for harder hits, maybe les vibes? - and for splitting.
Gotcha, yea I like 36” but I’m tall so that length suits me good , I have a number of 36” in different head configurations, Jersey patterns are some of my favorite for splitting.

40" on a 1.8kg ax head KILLS rounds and is so effortless to swing hundreds of times!
Try it, if You don't like it cut off however much feels too long. ;)

I ONCE had my Dragon Slayer on a 32" handle and I freaking hated it.
40+" or no handle at all!!!

Good luck finding a 40" handle in the US.
A wise man would prolly build some hewing axes & gather some other tools (draw knife, ect...) to make his own handles.
Would be set up for life then.

I looked into buying some blanks recently @ Beavertooth & they are 55+ days out for new orders.
I've gotten to where I only buy a handle if I can examine it in person (in hand).
If I find a good handle, I buy it THEN look for a head for it.
That's how bad the handles are now a days (used the be the other way around).

I'll have to check em out thanks.

I want to learn the art of making them also.
Hickory is extremely plentiful here (Ash also).
Wouldn't take up much space to mill enough for a lifetime of axe handles.

My ax handles aren't commercial, they are custom made!
Commercial handles in my area do not go over 32".

The one I busted prior to the current locust one was oak, did very well.
I wanna make a Cornelian Cherry handle, old folk claims they are indestructible.
