Thinning down the handle on my old style council faller in an attempt to gain some swell. Thin profile bit one. The handle is loose and a bit short at 26.5” so I think I’m gonna hang my 4lb Mann rafter on it. Then hang the council on a 32” straight. View attachment 375509
Done. Love it.IMG_1278.jpegIMG_1279.jpegIMG_1281.jpegIMG_1297.jpeg

I've sold a few lately, but still have 20 or more.
I'm gonna thin the heard down to 15 & stick with that number (sell one & try another ect...).
Some of the guys over on bushcraftusa have collections in the hundreds.
Definitely a rabbit hole. Lol

Yup, it’s a 69 convertible Mustang !

As for my favorite 6 pounder, I’ve been nursing a neck/shoulder issue for a little while now and haven’t been able to get any swings with some of my Sweedish or German additions. I’ve been sanding the handles and treating them with BLO, once a week so they dry nicely. I’ll be applying the 8th coat on the first one, and have the 8th handle lined up for sanding Thursday/Friday. Keeps me busy whilst waiting out this cruel aging process.

Gonna try a fallers handle on one, @chiselbit and I are curious.

I’ll take your old curved handle if you don’t saw it off 😆
I've seen guys run short handles on that axe (on video). I bet that's a hell of a wedge banger.

If I end up changing it out, I'll send it your way. 👍🏻

My dedicated wedge bangers are a Gransfor Bruk 3 1/2# Yankee, a Collins 5# rafting pattern, and the Stihl Pro Universal which nearly gave me carpal tunnel hand filing the edge. The Stihl is okay for small trees, but I find the current offerings of European axes tend to be on the light side. I found the Collins with a loose handle at an antique shop for $7 a few years ago. It is my go to.
