But then again non of them are stock except for a 044 shelf queen that I have never put in wood.

Sometimes im lucky enough to have a machine help me with my firewood.

But when i dont the cuttin is the easy part..you know..splitting , loading , stacking..

way to go! I am on ur team, too! I like sprint kart V8 acceleration, but I like 6's too. have 2... I could tell u about them, but prob not suitable for this site or thread, other than I can haul my saws in the rig they power... but I will tell u this about my other 'street 6' ! full crankshaft scraper, full length windage screen, studs for head, hot solid cam... ported heads, stud pinned rocker studs, roller rockers, 4 barrel carb, etc... NOS (I have the very first NOS diffuser nozzle every sent out of NOS when they first came out with their design) it was sent to me for my 6! took some V8s Camaros, 'stangs on the spray!!! stop lite stuff. had slicks in rear behind stock hubcaps!! and r u sittin' down?: 5.13's:1 rear posi gear in read! lol ;) and... one hot Saturday night ( few moons ago) I was getting gasoline... before heading over to the show... and my 6 was idling... and one dude came up to car with another... "there Dave, there! that's what u need, a hot chevy V8...!" oh he does, huh? I said, so would u guys like to see my V8 sbc? oh yes, dude, sure, yeah... cool!!!! (76 nova, 5-spd Doug Nash, 12-bolt) and I popped the hood! "Boing! " :sconf: "omg, it's a 6!" sounds like a V8!

i designed it so the piston came up out of the deck... and the top of piston stopped its upward movement in the head gasket! talk about some serious squish!!! still have the engine, sold the car with a LS-5 I had stuck in it... lol

OMG! it's a 6! ;)

my other one powers my van of 25 years... the a/c evap core is the trans oil cooler! lol... ;) .020 over, decked, balanced, MSD, Magnecore Race Wires, RV cam, ported head, valve bowl work, dual exhaust with Gibson components... full ADDCO sway bar upgrades frt back... daily driver! smooth n sweet! :aaaaa: :icon12: it!

sorry for jumpin' off the thread... not everyday I get to tell someone interested ... about my 6's lol ;)
HAHA! Thanks for sharing! Nice to have someone with the same thought. Yeah, my 292 I rebuilt isn't quite to that major extent but will perform nicely. Expected power should be around 310 hp and 340 torque. The motor is backed by a tremec tko600 5 speed. I'm excitied as heck to get that thing going. lol Hey if ya wanna see my truck's build you can check out this link. Then you can see what I did to the motor. haha

Most of my saws are stock, but have a muffler mod or cats removed. I'm waiting anxiously to try my 359 that I sent away for treatment.

in the relative scheme of things, personally... I thought both saws performed very well...overall. maybe its just me... nothing to noodle about for either one, imo. but, while on subject... I am wondering if others saw it, too? the hold-back technique used in the first vid. am I the only one who saw it?....

now, no doubt about it, that's lame for sure... I just love these comparison saw vids...

I port saws for money but when I cut timber for money I use my mildly ported 395,I leave the play/work saws at home.

I'm like randy,I've ported saws for almost 12 years now as a main source of income and I'm sick of starting and listening to them. Give me the quiet slower saw please.

I'll never own a 372 again,I've don't care how good they cut I can't stand the sound of one.

Lets say a stock saw cuts 30% slower than the same ported saw.
That means you can cut 3 cords in the same time as you can cut two with a stock saw.
Those who cut commercialy see the most benefits.
Resale is a whole different story, stock saws will always fetch the bigger dollar.
What would you rather have, a stock Dodge Charger, or one that was punched out?

Most of the arguments made about the " value " of a ported saw seldom come from commercial users john..your the exception.

Dont get me wrong .. some ported saws ive ran were fun to use..some not so much..idk.. depends on builder/model i guess...everyone has priorities.

I'm thinking about a 550 but I'm waiting to hear how the auto tune saws work out for other people and watch for threads on mods and improvements. If nothing else I think the 550 is pretty sharp looking unit. How long have you had yours metallic?

I bought my 550XP off eBay about 2 months ago. I tore it down when I got it and it was super clean. I was totally psyched because it was a good deal ($425) on eBay but i didn't know the seller so I was prepared for the worst. I've run it for maybe 10-15 hours (10-15 tanks) in the last 2 months and it just rocks. The only thing I need to remember is to set the choke when starting it, even if its only sat for 10 minutes. No saw I've ever ran cools down that fast.

I've borrowed my friend's MasterMind550XP for trail work these last couple weeks and the MM saw starts easily with no choke and no pumps on the primer bulb even after sitting in below freezing temps for 30-45 minutes. Distinctly different than the stock saw.

That's good to hear that it's been a good saw so far. I'm going to a town that has a couple saw dealers this weekend. I may just have to give one a try. My poor old ms230 just doesn't quite cut it for a farm saw anymore.
